Can someone explain to me, in plain English, who is right - RE: Arab vs Israel?

Arabs owned land that Jesus supposedly lived (or was born) on. The Jewish people decided to claim this land as their own, and pushed the Arabs out with force.

Ever since, there has been unrest.

Am I right?

not quite.

The 'land' has changed hands from Jews to Romans to many others. The Arabs came well after many. They stayed around, since it is believed Mohammad stepped into heaven from where the old Jewish temple stood. The Muslims then built the "Dome of the Rock" mosque on that spot. This kind of put the kink on the Jews rebuilding the Temple, since it would require razing this and another Mosque. Since the Jews consider Israel the promised land, it created tension with the Arabs who were the current inhabitants. You see, not very simple. Both Arabs and Jews originated from the same tribe anyway, and both are Semites.

As you might guess, the Palestinians did not take kindly to having the land they possessed for centuries being given to the Jews, and so there is conflict in the nation of Israel and area of Palestine. The Israelis aren't hospitable hosts, though, to put it lightly, so the violence and hostility is mutual and built over the history of the past decades.

and by the way, one missing factor from ironwing's comical history of the land was that 7 arab nations surrounding the land attacked Israel a day after it declared independence. Not because of their "brethren" but because they were jewish. the jews only kicked out arabs after they were attacked and couldnt tell the difference between an enemy and a civilian. Also, those arab countries told the arabs in the land ' come to our land, we will kill the jews, then you can go back' (paraphrased ofcourse) when that didnt happen, the arab countries didnt want these poor people around their countries and they wondered back to where they are today.


same thing happened in America in the 1800s sort of. the Irish who immigrated to the US had a lot of hate against them because they were all poor and would take any job availble and would take away jobs from natives. Americans didnt want them.
