Can someone help me get my new build running?

I am having some issues with my build. I am at the GUI part of the Windows XP Pro installation where it says all kinds of good things about Windows XP. Right when I get in, it says that it is missing a file called "asms". I have switched optical drives to no avail, but the Windows disc doesn't seem to have any physical defects.

The OS is being installed on a SATA drive, Maxtor 300GB. I have an Antec Neopower 480 PSU, 6600GT, and a MSI K8N Neo4 mobo.

I am trying to pinpoint what the problem is, but it doesn't seem to be optical drive related.

I think it might be related to my disc. After some close scrutiny, I found a "scratch" that spans the radius of the disc. It doesn't seem like a regular scratch, more like somebody rubbed their pinky across the disc, leaving a track of fingerprints. By the way, I looked up microsoft support, and the "xcopy" command won't even work on my Windows 98 startup disk. I tried the "copy" command which worked, but it said that D:\, the NEC 3520A drive that I have, is an incorrect drive parameter.

I used to have cyclic redundancy check errors, but now I have the error that ColKurtz linked to. None of the fixes on the Microsoft site seem to be applicable to me, as I am not upgrading a version of windows, or have another partition to install on, and I am using a retail cd-rom.

How would I burn a copy of my Disc? Is it the same operation as a regular burn, or do I have to do something special to make it bootable?
