You have to understand that time is money. You will never buy a bag with a dyson and you can vacuum much quicker and easier with it.

So let's break it down with some personal experience.
Dyson vacuuming, per floor of a 3 story house.
15 minutes per floor, 2 minutes to empty = 17 minutes.
3 floors = 51 minutes for a full house vacuum.

Bag vacuum, personal experience again.
15 minutes per floor, 15 minutes to change bags
3 floors = 90 minutes for a full house vacuum.
Add cost of bags at 2 bucks a pop, add 6 bucks per session.

Dyson = 51 minutes total, no bag cost.
Bag = 90 minutes + 6 bucks worth of bags.

At 60 bucks an hour that time can be considered to be worth...
Less than 60 bucks with the dyson.
96 bucks per vacuum with a bag vac.

52 vacuums per year.
Dyson = 3120 dollars of time and money.
Bag = 4992 dollars of time and money.

Dyson saves almost 2000 dollars a year.

Give me a break. You already said you'd buy the vacuum and test it. Go do it....... AND BE HONEST on the test, and suck up if you're wrong!!!
I've had both vacuums and have tested both. My sis sold her Dyson for a $100. loss after about a week owning it , to buy a Eureka like mine a week later......... We traded for a week, remember the thread?

Yes I remember.

What part of my operating expense/cost analysis do you disagree with?

I'll buy the vacuum to clean up the basement, but time is money and I'd prefer the money. Because remember time is money, money is time. They are equal.

I'm done tonight.

Buy the vacuum, test it and post back................... I'll be around.

PS--- Make sure it's the 4870 you buy!

I'll do my best. But I have a 2000 dollar Eureka canister vac sitting unused for 7+ years since I got my heaven, my joy, my Dyson. It was meant to do duty as an upstairs vacuum, the canister vac after the dyson entered the hom, it has gone unused since the Dyson came into my home.

there really is a difference in the quality of a cheap vacuum cleaner vs a quality one. when i was in dorms i had this POS vacuum cleaner that didnt clean shit. I didnt realize that the vacuum my parents had at home was so much better than other things out there since it was the only thing i ever used. it seems like im torn between a dyson and eureka

thanks all you guys for advice

I don't know about whether there are new versions of the other vacuums, but I've read that Hoover Mach 5 is both cheaper and significantly better than the WindTunnel reviewed in that chart. I don't remember if it's entirely due to the Fusion/Mach's use of cyclonic technology cloned from Dyson.

Are all the Eurekas bagged? If you're interested in a less expensive bagless cyclonic, you may want to consider the Hoover Mach series or the Whisper. I think some of the Bissells are competitive also, but I have no direct experience.

his numbers sound like something he pulled out of his keester. you'd have to be shoveling dirt into your house or live like pigs to go through bags like that.
as for "personal experience". we are geeks here. would we buy video cards and cpus based on some vague notion of "personal experience"? give me a break, its benchmarks and real tests. you only see how easily people fail things like blind a/b tests whether its with sodas or audio equipment to know that your "feel" of a product is rather unreliable and easily manipulated by suggestion.

No, I have pets.

That's why the Dyson is so freaking absolutely amazingly incredible. It's pure heaven to vacuum with it.

My cost analysis is sound and very clearly shows how it can save you upto if not over 2000 dollars a year. You'd be an idiot to turn away that kind of money EVERY SINGLE YEAR!!!

There just isn't a better vacuum out there. It doesn't exist. The Dyson is THE vacuum and all other cannot be compared to its amazing, easy to use, easy to clean, never loses suction, pure joy and happiness to use. It is THE vacuum, there are no others. It really is that good.

I had a Eureka upright with a triple bag filtration sytem that was a great vacuum cleaner. I replaced the motor brushes in it once and it lasted about 30 years. When it finally died I got a bagless Bissell which does a good job but it doesn't get the edge of walls very good compared to the Eureka, which had an edge cleaner feature built in. Not having to buy replacement bags is aplus, but if I needed another vacuum cleaner now I would try to find another Eureka, preferably bagless if they make them.

My girlfriends mom is like Hitler when it comes to keeping her house clean (they have 6 dogs and I have never seen a more clean house), she uses the Eureka Boss 4870, she went through 2 dyson's before deciding on the Eureka. I now own the Eureka Boss. I would also like to say that at first, I had a huge problem with the bagging system, because of the consumables, but after seeing it clean and the fact that I dont have to clean the filter in the bagless system I really am happy with my purchase.

:thumbsup:X3! I did alot of reading on the huge vacuum thread at fatwallet till I finally picked up a Whisper. It's awesome and picks up everything. Well, well worth it. Uses all of the Dyson technology and all that stuff.

First time I got my own place, I went out and got a 200 dollar Eureka from Target. In 3 years have never been unhappy with it.
It uses bags which is actually a hell of a lot better than bagless. By the way, its "The Boss".

I just bought a $90 Hoover Mach3 cyclonic from Wal-Mart. I like it. I wish it didn't have the telescoping handle. That makes it feel kinda cheap and wobbly. It sucks pretty well, though.

I couldn't find any Hoovers around here branded as "Whisper". :\
