Can someone tell me why this powersupply doesnt support Quad Core? If you click on specifications it says "Quad Core Support: NO"

How do you know if your powersupply supports quad core or not?

Ignore ZZF's specs since it will power a C2Q.

Think about it...

How would the PSU know what it is powering?
Something needs 12 amps, be it a CPU, Video card, a hamster...the PSU sends it.

That specification is completely useless. The only need to support quad core on a psu is enough stable power, which will usually be only like 6-8 amps on the 12v rail at max load. Any 200w psu could power a quad core with no extras.

Just to note, that is a rather poor psu, no pfc, low efficiency, and what I'd suspect is a rather outdated design. Coolermaster's other psu lines look a lot better when looking at the basic specs.

Because the supply came out before quad core CPUs were on the market, or Cooler Master didn't bother to throw that onto their feature checklist, and because ZZF mistakenly believes that such a spec is meaningful in some way.

Ignore it.

So what do you look for when buying a good PSU...I need one to power a quad core, high end video card, 2-4gb ram, 1 hard drive, sound card...I dont want to really spend more than $100

Earthwatts 430/500
Corsair VX450/550 or HX520

Earthwatts 430/500
Corsair VX450/550 or HX520

Perfect choices there, completely concur on both points. I'd throw in the Seasonic S12 430w-500w as a couple other choices that are extremely similar.

Yeah, I got that coolermaster myself, and it was loud for some reason. Had to replace the fan. It's got plenty of power though, is a seventeam OEM PSU so it's not at all that bad. But I'd still rather have a Earthwatts or a Corsair 450vx.

Earthwatts 430/500 $65-$70 for 430w and little more for the 500w. All good!
Corsair VX450/550 or HX520 450w for $66 after MIR/550 around $90/520 around $100

Any of those PSU's will do just fine!

so if i already have a 500 watt rosewill i should be ok?
This is the rig i'm trying to run:

And I'm using an X1900XT for my graphics card...my 500 watt rosewill is about 2 years old, but still runs fine...should i get a new PSU? You guys really think a 450 watt power supply would be enough...i think my graphics card requires like 450 at the minimum

The only thing good about a Rosewill PSU is that there is no worse PSU than a Rosewill PSU.

Not entirely true, their are far worse PSU's then Rosewill, its just that Rosewill happens to be the most reliable of them. It also depends on which model you get.

I personally would just get an Antec Earthwatts 500W, you can pick them up for like $80 and most places have mail in rebates on them.

With that in mind I suppose you've never heard of Deer, Powmax, Hairong, and Okia (to name a few)?

Rosewills aren't all that bad as far as I know. Fortron's aren't all that bad either. It's still better to get a qaulity PSU for 50/60$, but if you are on the worst money saving trip you could be, getting a rosewill or fortron PSU wouldn't be that retarded...

I don't think I've ever seen anyone equate Fortron and Rosewill before.
