The difference is in the things you can't see, and take for granted. We're talking about workmanship, fabrics, lining, threading, buttons, fit, etc. Bottom-line: You get what you pay for up to a point.

Now, don't even think about moaning about bespoke suiting.

So True!

When shopping for my Interview Suit, I selected a $900 suit that was the "house" brand. Anyone in Nor-Cal should know Patrick James as it was under their label. Comparable to the Zegna and Armani suits they had. Walking into a room full of people knowing you look outstanding gets the Self confidence up so your ready to win that job!

The way the suit lays is amazing, the professioanl tailoring they did was amazing! I also bought 2-ties from them and tying a $80 tie compared to a $30 tie, is no comparison! Flat out looks better, way better!

If I wore a suit everyday, I might shop at the Mens Warehouse, but since I only wear a suit on special occassions I'll stick with paying the premium!

It's a term dating back hundreds of years. When a customer would visit a tailor (who would have held lengths of fabric on their premises) and choose a length of fabric for his suiting, it was said to have "been spoken for." Hence a tailor who makes your clothes individually, to your specific personal requirements, is called "bespoke".

I don't see the problem some of you guys have with the way other people spend their money. If you can afford it and it makes you happy then who cares.

You really need to hang out here more, then you'll realize how much people here are concerned about how others spend their money.

most expensive suit I have is around $600 - $800. Don't remember the exact price. I can see a difference between it and crap at JC Penny.

The shape of the suit is a lot better, it fits better, better material etc. It will make you look better overall.

At $3000 you are talking the best quality of materials, custome fit by a tailor and excellent workmanship that will most likely last a lifetime. If you have a good TV check out the news sometime to see someone wearing a nice suit. The material has a nice sheen to it that makes it stand out and the fit makes the person look better than a $200 JC Penny suit.

its the material, fabrics, etc...the cheap ones will winkle (especially the back area) after a few hrs of wearing it. The expensive ones will hold up much better, because of better material, like silk blend, etc...if you have the chance to watch david letterman or Jay leno in high definition, you can see their suits have a silky sheen shine to it.

You don't have to go to Singapore to get a nice custom tailored suit. Plenty of excellent tailors here in the US still. $3k for off the rack would be a bit much, but $3k for a fully custom tailored suit is not unreasonable so long as the fit and cut are perfect and the materials are highest quality.
The difference between a $300 suit and a $3k suit is very noticeable. Fit, cut, materials, etc. IMO it's easy to spot a cheap suit.
MW is about the worst suits you can get btw.

Get a $3000 taylored to fit you perfectly, and you will know the difference.

It's all about social status my friends. The elite wouldn't be caught dead wearing the same suit the middle class wears.

Wear a $3000 suit and get back with us.

It's like the $5 shake in Pulp Fiction. It's one damn fine milkshake. I dunno if it's worth $5, but damn is it good.

So where to buy and what brands are some decent suits? $500 or less. The only suit I ever have is some housebrand from Dillard (about 10 years old and yes I still able to wear it). Time to get some nice and new suits.

Try Nordstroms and Saks 5th Avenue, those department stores carry suit brands from Armani, Hugo Boss, Canali, Burberrys, etc. You can also try Brooks Brothers.

I can guarentee you won't find a quality bespoke tailor in the US willing to sell you a suit for less than $500 USD.

big ramp in quality between 500 and 1000,

less than 500 and its obvious

a 1000 suit is just fine in any and i mean any environment

over 1000 diminishing returns. better but not by much, and sometimes not as good. go see nordstroms. do not go to jos. never stepped foot in MW

An important detail in what brigden mentioned is that these private tailors in HK and Shanghai produce suits comparable to your big named fashion houses at a fraction of the price and in the span of a couple day. Big detail there

It's hard to simply say "Store A and Store B", guaranteeing a good suit. A fancy $1000 suit could still look on crap on me if it isn't the right cut for me. You need to try some department stores, try on some suits, see what styles are available and which ones you like. You'll always find smaller private clothiers that might not necessarily be more expensive.

If you're buying off the rack, the normal shopping times apply...after a season, certain styles will go on sale. Go now and you should see sales on winter suits (thicker weaves/materials, for the cold weather), same goes for shopping in the fall for spring/summer suits. It's an art, really.
