Will this car even sell for MSRP? All this anticipation is not good for actual buyers.
i'm starting to hate myself for liking the BRZ more and more. that video makes it look like a blast to drive. if subaru would release a turbo version it would sell like hotcakes.
it would definitely be nice to have the extra power of a turbo too. i'm not asking for much, just 300 hp and 250 ft/lbs of torque. well, maybe i am asking for too much. but this car shouldn't jump into the HP Wars foray.
the other sentiments express here, "it will be the new 'it's got v-tech, yo' crowd", i agree with. i expect that there will be lots of thrashed scions on the market and many boy racers thinking that this is the best car since the RSX-S.
Even if it ends up being a good car, the stupid hype makes it somewhat unattractive. I agree with the "v-tech yo" comment.
Well, since my first and current car is a Camry, I guess by this logic...I will be just like you.
Hmm...
Well, I live in Mid Florida. 80% of my high school friends and most of my co-workers all have either A) lifted trucks or other utility vehicles or B) a sporty-ish car. Mustangs, Kompresser era Merc's, older M series BMW's, or the standard versions of their parents previous model year german cars, etc (The odd GTI/GLI, MS3, 350s, etc). The rest of them drove everyday normal cars that in my opinion, were exponentially better than my pale white 1999 Camry. ;_;1) Depends how high the douchebag factor is in your area.
2) Recent generation Camry's are no slouch, they aren't the "I can get out and push faster" cars of the 90s.

The GT86 could be a great car eventually, if drop-in engine replacements can be done relatively easily. Otherwise, modding this engine will be very tough.
If you want to drift, get 200sx + $5k worth of engine goodies. The GT86 could be a great car eventually, if drop-in engine replacements can be done relatively easily. Otherwise, modding this engine will be very tough.
Finding a Silvia in good shape is impossible
Finding a Silvia in good shape is impossible
... until the aftermarket familiarizes itself with the new engine.
Wringing much out of a high-compression 4-banger will not be very fruitful without lots of $$$. Unless we get a 'gift' and the motor is rediculously over-built and you can bolt-on a turbo. Even then, the level of boost would be very questionable. These will probably go the way of the RX-8. Great handling, but way to expensive to really get more HP from the engine without an entire swap.
It has already been confirmed that the same engine will be turbocharged in other applications, so it's definitely designed with boost in mind.
My understanding is that it will have a 12.5 compression ratio, hardly a great engine to bolt a turbo to.
Subaru has confirmed the ENGINE from the BRZ may be adapted to have a turbo, but not in the BRZ. Also, they have been pretty adamant to get the WRX or STi if you want a quicker car with more power. I wouldn't hold me breath for one myself.
Well there are rumors that Subaru will release a BRZ STi which should be turbocharged. They claim it will put out 300hp, but i'm not sure about that number as it would affect sales for the wrx/sti.
