One of the Newegg reviewers mentions that it runs Vista Ultimate with "lightning speed" with 2 GB of memory. For what it's worth.

Yeah, put 2GB of RAM total in there, and it should be fine. Otherwise, it'll likely be slow in situations. If you can't upgrade the RAM, use Readyboost.

Even with a ram upgrade I'd still consider using Readyboost, definitely want to keep random access on what has to be a slow hard drive to a minimum.

I'm running Vista on a D420 (1.2GHz Core Duo w/ 1GB RAM) and it's been fine for basic web browsing. The PC is a bit sluggish in general, but I'm pretty sure that has way more to do with the hardware than with Vista. Either way, an extra gig wouldn't hurt.

Yeah it will run on it but why would you want to run vista in the first place???? If you have to have the vista eye candy Install xp and try the Vista Transformation pack. There is no need for an operating system that bad on a computer like that.

I have an older Sony Vaio with a Pentium M and 512 MB of RAM. On a lark, I loaded Vista Home Edition to see how it would perform.

While it is slow to start up, once it had booted the experience is quite usable. I still use it for VPN into the office, running Lotus Notes, Sametime, etc.

I keep it in Standby mode when I'm not using it, which avoids the whole issue with slow startup.

Go for Vista!

*edit* The only issue for me is that Aero graphics won't run... which is not a priority since it's for work. The integrated graphics in the eeeeeeeeepc may or may not be an issue for you there...

Along with the suggestions above, you could try tweaking the Vista install to your liking with vLite to remove some of the unwanted/resource hog items?

I've heard that's really something you don't want to do with Vista.
