can this lady do anything against me?

I had to pick up a friend at the local gym and I was waiting outside in my car. To make a long story short, I was parked further away and I noticed that there was a handicap spot no one appeared to be using, so I drove into the spot temporarily waiting with my engine running for my friend to come out. I was not in the spot for more than 3 minutes until this lady in her 40s or so came next to my window yelling at me and asking aggressively if I am disabled. I rolled down my window and said I was just waiting for my friend but she yelled even more saying that she doesn't care and that she's disabled. She walked completely fine but she claimed to have some toe issue. I started moving my car and she said I look like a handicap or something like that which was a low blow. I yelled something back as I backed out and she jumped back in my face and started to memorize my license plate number saying she will call the cops. I said go for it. The convo got pretty heated.

I took down her license plate number as well. I highly doubt she has a disability severe enough to warrant a handicap spot because she certainly didn't have trouble moving. I want to verify this if she decides to stir anything up. I am aware that I probably should have not used the handicap spot to wait but I would've appreciated if she hadn't approached me aggressively yelling at me like she's on PMS.

If you don't want to get yelled at for sitting in a handicapped parking spot, don't sit in a handicapped parking spot.

This. The way the parking garages are on campus, certain spots basically require you to back into an empty handicap spot to exit, and even that for a brief moment makes me nervous. Idling in one for minutes on end? Bad show op.

Maybe next time you'll remember that handicapped spaces are not there for your non-handicapped convenience.

And I have a feeling this is going to be another one of those threads that blows up in an OP's face.

How about I park in front of your driveway so you can't get your car out of the garage? Seems like this sort of thing might get your attention.

Are you or your friend classified as handicapped?

From your description, the answer is no.

Therefore you best go see a doctor because you must be handicapped to not understand what the handicap parking is for.

People can be classified as handicapped and not have the problem visible.

Such as diminished lung capacity or a damaged limb that makes distances difficult to travel at a time.

Then after you get a handicap waiver from your doc, they do offer for mental degradation; you can park in such a location.

However, the DMV may pull your license because if your handicap.

Just another thread created by a self-absorbed inconsiderate nincompoop who has no regard for anyone beyond him/herself. Heaven forbid you actually consider anyone else's needs, problems, or whatever in your insular, self-absorbed world. Next time, try a little simple consideration of others. But that will probably never happen, given the OP and this thread. Sad, really.

Nah...unfortunately, cops can't write tickets for violations they don't see themselves.

(pesky laws and stuffs)

At worst, you might get a sternly worded note from the police telling you to keep your non-handicapped ass out of the handicapped parking spaces.
(that warning might even go into your "permanent file."

A handicapped pass came in my new car. Only thing I can think of is that someone test drove it, or a salesperson took it home for the night and then it got left in there. No idea what to do with it...

They can't write a ticket but they can swear out a warrant or summons and use the complainant as a witness. At least in my state they can. Now I don't know of a single one that would over parking in a handicap space but it is technically possible. It would be up to the complainant to go to court and argue the case.

OK, I'll go along with that. BUT, like you say, it's highly unlikely a cop would even bother with something like a handicapped parking violation.

There is difference between standing car and parked car. Standing is short time stop with intent of passenger or cargo replacement, parking is anything where car stands but without intentions mentioned above. Taxi spot, handicapped spot, reserved spot and bus stop are fixed places where standing and parking is prohibited if you are not the intended user. The reaction of that woman was utterly retarded, but she was right technically, even people without visible disability may have one, or they may no longer have a problems but they still get issued the disability card and they live normal life+enjoy the benefits, yes that's modern justice.

The issue with handicapped spaces is that there are TOO FREAKING MANY OF THEM! What are the odds that 10 disabled people show up all at the same time to go buy stuff at Home Depot, or watch a hockey game? Places like hardware stores and arenas do not need 20+ freaking handicap spots. Trying to avoid them can be a challenge sometimes since everywhere you go that's near the building, there's one so you really have to watch where you drive/wait. I have heard of cops purposely locking people into a handicap spot if they drive over one to get to the other side, so they can give them a ticket. They're almost like traps. (think that happened to a member here, actually)

My experience is that there usually aren't ENOUGH handicapped parking spots.
Yes, sometimes you see several empty ones...but go to Costco...they're almost never open...and our Home Depot...it's unusual to see more than one or two open.

I'm mainly concerned about some ticket/fine coming into my mail. Pretty sure she was on pms and hates her life or something.

That's not what you should be concerned about. You should be concerned about growing up an inconsiderate prick. That's the danger here.

Too late for that, he's already an inconsiderate prick. The danger now is if he breeds and creates a new generation of inconsiderate pricks.

You don't have crap to worry about. With that said you shouldn't even "wait" in a handicapped spot. As far as this bitch goes she's part of the problem also. O I got a hurt toe, I need to park in handicap spots. Give me a fucking break. I don't care if you got a broken foot suck it the fuck up. Handicap spots should be for the severely disabled people and not a bunch of panzy ass fuckers.
