I think it's MORE unethical to have so many empty handicapped spaces. Shouldn't it be first come, first served to the closest spots? Just make sure to leave one spot open for the truly disabled. How many handicapped people are actually gonna be at walmart at the same time?

I was with you until the last sentence....Walmart could be mostly HC spots.

Anyway I think the whole thing is discriminatory. First BET, now this.

When are they going to put in spots for White financially-comfortable straight males with no handicaps who are between the ages of 25-35? When will we be represented in Amerikkka????????? When do we catch a break in this "great" country?

Freedom and stuff.

Oh, pity party. We've all had issues in our life.

I have had three knee operations, have no cartilage in either knee and a toe that constantly goes numb when walking. Handicap spot, which I'm sure I could get, is the furthest thing from my mind.

But you have the advantage of four knees, what with you being a Jackass and all.

I'll probably get hammered for this, but handicap parking laws are just plain silly. How is having to walk or wheelchair a few more feet going cause anyone any issues other than inconvenience? If there's an actual physical reason that someone needs to be parked closer to the store, then, by that logic, all of their needs inside the store should be catered to, as well. Now, obviously there should be wide spots for vehicles that need wheelchair access, but why mandate them to be in the front?

Think of it along the same lines as why you would give up your seat on a bus/train for an old lady. Would you do that? It is more inconvenient for them than it is for you to park away from the front.

Dude...MOST days, I can walk from the front of the store to the back...and part way back without stopping.

BUT, once I get in the store...in those stores who care about the business of those of us who have mobility issues...I ROCK the cripple carts...and can get my weekly shopping done.

BoomerScooter PICS, please!

Handicapped spots are more government intrusion in my life, favoring one class of people above all others, in an effort to be as PC as possible.

Roads are bigger than sidewalks, they're everywhere, and they favor the driving class. MOAR gummint intrusion!

OP, you'll be fine. It's not a big deal. You were moving the vehicle, she should of just accepted that and moved on. Some people just like to be d-bags.

On that show "Parking Wars", in the cities they covered, a ticket could not be given when the driver was still in the car. Only if the driver refused to move, could they write a ticket. This included handicap spots.

So, had a cop seen you, he likely would have just made you move.

/wasn't there a previous post where some dude was backing out of a parking lot and briefly went into a handicap spot. A police cruiser blocked him in and gave him a ticket.

This. The way the parking garages are on campus, certain spots basically require you to back into an empty handicap spot to exit, and even that for a brief moment makes me nervous. Idling in one for minutes on end? Bad show op.

Why do you have to back into a handicapped spot to get out when you didn't going in?

Driving fail.

Well, I don't *have* to, but it's much easier that way.

I'm in the blue car next to the staircase, and I got there by driving straight in from below, pulling as close to the railing on the left as possible to give the car to my right plenty of room to swing his shitty car's door. By the time my nose passes the yellow barricade things to turn towards the right of the diagram, I'll be right up against the lower row of cars and will only have a couple feet of wiggle room unless I go into the handicapped spots anyways (which defeats the purpose). Instead, I reverse and back about halfway into the handicapped spots so that I can easily then turn right and go back the way I came.

The issue with handicapped spaces is that there are TOO FREAKING MANY OF THEM! What are the odds that 10 disabled people show up all at the same time to go buy stuff at Home Depot, or watch a hockey game? Places like hardware stores and arenas do not need 20+ freaking handicap spots. Trying to avoid them can be a challenge sometimes since everywhere you go that's near the building, there's one so you really have to watch where you drive/wait. I have heard of cops purposely locking people into a handicap spot if they drive over one to get to the other side, so they can give them a ticket. They're almost like traps. (think that happened to a member here, actually)

This, especially outside a gym, my local one has at least 10 handicapped spaces and 35-45 regular ones. At what point do they figure that 20%+ of the clientele are going to be disabled.

Please note I have no problem with handicapped people doing whatever they want but I do feel that 80% of the people I see with blue badges (handicapped badge in the UK) have no problem walking at all. Doctors seem to hand them out like candy
