hey im planning to upgrade really soon, and needed some advice.

ok im selling my system to a guy at work. its
p4 2.4c
abit is7
1gb ddr 400 (infineon)
gf2
52xcdrw
80gb hd
i spent about 600 on this about 2 years ago. this dude at work was gonna
buy a crappier used system for $700 so i offered mine for the same price.

so i made $100 profit.

i built a pc for a guy at work, and he let me keep the remaining money left over. $190.

total profit $290

this is what im thinking for my new system:
amd64 3500+ 90nm $320
$120 for a tower.
$150 motherboard
and either a 6800gt or x800xt.

already got hd, psu, and a 1gb of ocz pc3500. thats a total of $1095

take $1095-290(profit)= around $820. that price is including the $500 x800xt, so it could be cheaper
with the gt. so the total ive spent oc computers would only be around $850

so do you guys think this sytem will be good for that price? should i get a different cpu?
for this system would u get the XT or the GT? THANK

Get the GT. You can get almost same performance for a lot less. A GT can be had for ~$370 and if you look at the benchmarks at different sites, the GT is on the same level as an XT.

I would say get a GT for SURE I just got my Gainward 6800GT today and OMG¡¡¡¡¡¡¡¡¡ sick just sick. If you can throw down a little more for gainwards gt golden sample its gaurunteed to run at 400/1100 out of box thats stock ultra speeds and its under warranty when u clock to those speeds. If u cant afford a gainward gt gs then get any gt it would be a better purchase then a x800, i own both cards and i was a diehard ATi fan and let me tell u that changed

well ive toyed around with a GT for a week. yes it IS fast, but i noticed that theres really bad FPS drops, in CS:S..(yes i play that game alot).

example the GT would hit up to 188FPS, DAMN thats high, but it would drop to 35fps in heavy action.

my friends x800PRO NEVER hit 188fps, but it also NEVER dropped to 35fps in heavy action.

the GT was tested on my old system, the 2.4c...so im not sure if those drops are normal, or if they were caused by my cpu.

if i do get a GT it would probably be the leadtek gt...if i go the XT route, it'll probably be a sapphire or gigabyte.

basically, i just want the best system for the $$$ i am spending, and the BEST video card for my set up.

never knew it was this hard to decide between video cards.

anyways, what do ya'll think about the rest of the system setup...is that good?

saving money is good... you cant always keep up with new technology... money saved can go towards later upgrades

true that...never really thought about that. i think i will buy my pc, except the vid card, just use my old vid card...then when hl2 comes out, wait for the final benches then choose a card.

dude must buy the GT it will perform great in hl2 and quake 4 and any other game. i had the ATi x800 pro and it was so freakin glitchy, everytime i would fix a bug in one game a new one would start in another game GT is the best way to go, if u dont kno that then ur not reading reviews at all. Do you really just wanna build a pc listening only to what ppl on some forum have to say? Go read the reviews from SITES, and then combine the info from the forum, and u will see GT is ur best option, besides wtf u gonna do with 50 bucks if u save it cus u didnt buy a gt, u gonna buy a better card later for 50 bucks, or ur whole computer? buy the better card now and it will last u longer. sorry for the bad typing ina hurry

well without any bias, I think the gt and the x800 pro are pretty comparable overall. GT will give you better openGL performance while x800 pro may have a slight edge in dx and image quality. I would get whichever is cheaper. I am surprised though that you can get a x800pro for cheaper, usually you can buy a gt for $350 from time to time. Also check out the evga 6800 limited edition at zipzoomfly.com, these cards are pretty much 6800ultra's that didn't quite make the cut and people are having great success with them. $350 is a great price for an ultra (so far everyone has had 16pipes enabled out the box).
