I kind of want to access my old aol account again. Shit was a good 15 years ago. I got us that 1 year ban for shitting on mods in chat room. Then we never went back. Wouldn't mind giving a shot at trying to reconnect with a few people (slim chance). I'm not sure how to go about requesting access again though.
AIM is the only good thing to have come out of AOL, but that's been falling off for years now.

i don't get why an AOL email would be an issue? If it was like @bigwetbeavers.com, then I could see it.

Why are you so against using your own @domain.com?

Nothing projects a more professional and independent image.

I am not creative enough to come up with a cool name that is not already taken... any suggestions?

No, it sends the exact right message.
Using a AOL account is a useful shortcut to judge you by.

just for the record, I have a gmail address that I used for my resume till now. i created it back when it just started, bough invitation off of ebay. my address was firstname.lastnameinitial, it was perfect. About a year back some a55h0le in Indai decided to use my email address, I believe it was the result of the great "." confusion of gmail. He used the email address to register everywhere, banks, cell phone, car dealer, signup for free news feeds and stuff... I started receiving his bank statements, activation code and what not. I was also flooded with forgot password emails... I finally got by break when I received one from facebook, I entered his account and posted on his wall about what he was doing. He got pissed and signed me up for all kind of spams. Now I cannot get rid of them. That account is a taost. I wanted the same email address and it was taken everywhere, except, AOL and hence I wanted to use this sweet precise email address that I really like. I am not a old timer weirdo...

I've been using an aol/aim email since I was a kid. It's listed on my resume, but I use my gmail/school email to send out applications (mostly biology related). I wonder if this is contributing to not getting an interview yet, sigh.

I'm pretty far from computer illiterate, I just didn't feel a need to change e-mails, since aol/aim works fine. Since people actually judge through e-mail address though maybe I should just list my school email instead.

stop trolling... dont you have a cousin to date or something...

Seriously; DPowerAttournyAtLaw.info is NOT taken; you're just coming up with excuses.

Good job throwing out the troll'n argument in-defense of your own trolling though

What if your e-mail is to a shell account provider? I used to have one of those, but they went belly-up/got bought out.

It looks like your name and your firstlastname is already taken, correct?

Go here and enter two or three key words, remember the less you enter the more results you will receive. Play around and I'm sure you'll find something that clicks and you like. If you'd like a 2nd opinion, I have turned my PM's back on, feel free to PM me tonight.

I wouldn't make it industry specific, make it YOU specific, something that clearly identifies YOU.

Best of luck!

It's just autistic and/or intellectually insecure people thinking up ways to look down on people.

The advice I read was using your own domain for email is good because you can use your name but bad if the domain is neither a business nor has a good website attached to it. In other words if the only use of the domain is an email address it can backfire. Unless you plan on having something more attached to the domain don't bother.
