Not quite sure that I would want China to have control over a very large part of our energy infrastructure..... Wouldn't want them to have Cali either for various reasons.

How about Hawaii? Is it still as strategic in this day of nuclear ships and stuff? (just a joke, I say we tell em to stuff it but thats just me)

No, I like my macadamia nuts. I say give them Chicago and Detroit. The weather in California is too nice to give up.

Actually, that might work. If we could give them just Chicago/Crook Co. and Detroit/its county, we could actually solve a lot of the states problems those cities reside in. Maybe this has promise after all...

... I was there the other week, and I had to buy a couple groceries... They wanted to charge 10 cents for a bag for my groceries. What the fuck is wrong with you hipsters?

Yeah, I know you're all "green" (keep dreaming :sneaky - but the concept of a corporation manipulating you into paying 20x the price of a bag to make a profit off of paper bags is just assinine.

I'm with you there, the idea is dumb. You can't blame the retailer for it though, blame Austin City Council.

Go to a trade show, get free carry bags, bring bags to grocery store.

Epic win.

Yep, they work great for places like Costco or Sams that don't give you bags at all and you don't have to worry about bulky cardboard boxes either.

Austin City Council? So this was something mandated? I thought it was just the retailers keeping with the hipsters in the area to try and appeal to them.

But if it's Austin City council... wouldn't it be... the local hipster voters still?

It's funny, I make decent money - but even that 10 cents for a fuckin bag will piss me off and I'll tell them to reverse it

How about we just face the truth, admit we have a spending problem and open the books so we can get this budget balanced with a plan of attack for paying down the existing debt without incurring any additional?

I know it's overly simple, but it's worked for many people and their families, so why not take it up a notch.

Excellent suggestion, but here is why it will not work.

We have lost too many jobs to cheap overseas labor. Who is the only employer still hiring massive amounts of people?

It is not the steel mills, they closed a long time ago.

It is not the shipyards, they were closed back in the 1980s.

The only big employer hiring lots of people and offering good benefits is the federal government.

The government can not stop hiring or else the public might see how bad the economy really is. We think the nation is in a recession now? Let the government lay off a million people, then lets see how bad it is.

The federal government has to keep borrowing money to shore up the economy. Our economy is no longer supported by how much we produce, it is supported by how much money we can borrow and print out of thin air.

Think about this, the federal reserve is buying 85 billion in bonds every month.

The super aircraft carrier gerald ford only cost 13.5 billion and spanned 4+ years of construction.

One month of bond buying could give us 6 more aircraft carriers, and enough money to create thousands of jobs for close to 30 years.

The federal reserve and the federal government is dumping massive amounts of money to shore up a broken economy. The question is, which one will give first?

Our debt will be paid to china,
liberals will have something to complain about with their new communist leaders,
the nation will rid itself of liberals all in one swift deal,
welfare families will be put to work making smartphones.

What could go wrong?

Yeah lets get rid of the 8th biggest economy in the world.. Texas is the capital of fracking and polluting this country. Good riddance.

Can we compromise? We can keep Texas and California and in return I'm willing to let go of Alabama, Mississippi, Kansas, Utah, the Dakotas, and Arizona.

I'd consider the deal if you threw in Florida as well.

My only problem with that is I live in Georgia so it's my closest option for beach vacations. Then again, we give em Florida and they take on a huge part of our elderly and have to care for them .... ok, I can give up Florida too.

How about we get rid of northern mexico (aka southern CA), along with the aforementioned Chicago/Crook Co. and Detroit/Whatevershithole Co. it's in. That way they can feel they got a great deal by getting places that are either hot or cold depending on what climate they're going for, and we get a great deal of being rid of the people in these zones. The best part is, the Chinese would actually do what is necessary to lock down their borders and institute reforms to the incredibly corrupts social scams, er, I mean, systems, these places enjoy.

Either that or China will, er, lighten the demographic load. Either way, in the long run they'd be better places to live.

Sounds pretty fair to me!

Take away hollywood and what do you have left?

Ummmm.. Silicon Valley and San Francisco? Combined, they're by far the most important high tech and software/internet tech hubs of the United States. Probably one of the largest biotech areas, too. There's really nothing like it elsewhere in the country, even considering other supposedly tech-centric metro areas.

This argument is so silly. In just a few years Texas will be more like California now is than the California of now will be then. Then the folk of Texas who will be where California is now will be ranting and raving about how superior they are to the California they will in another few more years again become. Poor backward Texas will always be backward but it will progress. We always become what we fear.

What does Silicon Valley produce? Intellectual property.

Its not like Silicon Valley has factories that makes are real product. All of those engineers can be relocated.

Factories are rather lame even though the area does have it. There are also a lot of high tech manufacturing facilities there.

Are you suggesting that we'll just be giving away the land but keeping the people? For the most part, the high tech talent of the Valley move to other tech centers that tend to be even more liberal than Silicon Valley: Portland, Austin, Boston, etc. with some exceptions like Phoenix.

Factories are what supports the middle class.

The vast majority of tech manufacturing is in china.

Have you ever been in a factory? Do you have the slightest idea what you are talking about?

How about Texas instead?

Why would I give a damn whether my federal taxes went to the crooks in Washington, Beijing, Mexico City or Austin?

Though, its pretty obvious to everyone that the folks running the US government and the US economy could use a little help.

Remind me. How did Barrack get out of his problem with red lines and Syria?

Maybe a little advice from China wouldn't be such a bad idea. Didn't Vladimir Putin bail Barrack out during the last crisis?

Then, all the little spin meisters could regale us with stories of that's how Barrack planned it all along...

LOL

Seriously though, if the Federal Government stays shut down, I'm okay with that... Fact is Belgium went 541 days without a government. World didn't end... Internet didn't stop...
