In other sad news, a 40-50ish lady at my job was unable to get her blood pressure meds during Hurricane Wilma. Had a stroke and died. She was funny and active at work, just a low level worker there, but always said hi to everyone. Many are having a hard time dealing with her loss.

Two sad parts...she was scheduled to become a full-time employee with benefits as soon as she got back to work. She left 5 kids, I am not sure if she has much family...she became a single mom (all the same father) when he took off....oldest is 17, youngest like 5 or 6.

If you can even give a single buck to these kinds of things try too. As my career is growing, I am finding I am donating more and more.

Don't pharmacies give out 2 weeks worth of meds if you bring in an empty bottle during times like these?

"Thank you for your support!
We do not have a tally of the total donations and we are also pending
checks in the mail, but we are very confident that enough will be raised
for her first surgery. Thank you for helping to make this happen!
Please thank all of those in your forum as well.

if they are open and if you can get there I would imagine that is possible.

Nice work aircooled!

Looking more at her condition, I can see how multiple surgeries are needed:

1. Remove tumor
2. Reconstruct airway
3. Reconstruct facial features
4. Multiple skin harvests/grafts

This poor kid's in for a long haul. The tumor removals I've seen on Discovery Channel took roughly a year and dozens of surgeries (mostly skin harvests/grafts) after the tumor removal. Infection is also imminent after a tumor removal as all the skin and its protective layers have to be removed as well. C'mon guys, let's get this out to the front page, or at least the top of this section!

it will. but that's not the kind of topic i'm going for. "can we help?" is just too generic imo.

How about:

Please help this girl with 16lb tumor - Pics & links inside

That shows it's a cry for help and a charitable thread. The pics will get people's interest at worst and some donations at best.

how will they restore her face aferwards???

Lots of surgeries and skin grafts. You have to completely cut off and toss away the tumor and anything touching it, including the skin. Her face is going to be basically cut off during the procedure, then they'll take use grafts/artificial skin to rebuild it. Unfortunately, they have to do that numerous times in the months following the tumor removal procedure to get the thickness of skin and all the layers needed to protect the organs.

Poor girl. As far as Dr's go, If it wasn't for my miracle Dr. at B&W in Boston 6 yeras ago, I might not be here today. I had NO insurance and NO money. My Doctor decided to donate his services to save my life. I wish all Dr's could be so generous. So thank you Dr. Singer. I owe you my life.

Its not the doctors- its the hospital. Do you have a better way to run the healthcare system?
