i remember seeing a TLC special, where a boy had a huge tumor on his face, and operated on in Taiwan. It was such a cool, heartwarming documentary. When I watched it though, it was a rerun, so at the end of the program, they had a small update about the boy.

unfortunately, the boy died from complications from surgery . Not the doctor's fault at all, since they were portrayed as being very good, and reputable. every surgery has its risks.

I just felt sad and felt like I watched the show for nothing, since in the end, that boy died .

How generous of the doctors, they'll operate if enough money is raised.

Read the thread. The doctors aren't holding this up, it's the hospitals. And like LtPage1 and others have mentioned, if the doctors did this for everyone who came through, there would be no money for anything else, then the hospital and the doctors would have to close shop.

The first time I saw this thread, I had just seen "200lb Tumor" and "160lb Tumor" on the Discovery Channel. They ran them back to back and it was just amazing that they could even do this type of surgery in the first place, let alone twice, and be successful both times.

what is up with the medical community that they are actually waiting for enough money to be collected until they will help this girl? :|
I don't think it's fair to criticize others for not being charitable enough... after all, chances are someone's going to die this year who could have been saved if you'd donated a kidney.
that's not the same. if i were a doctor or hospital admin there i would donate services to this girl.

If there was only a bit more publicity about this, she might have gotten free treatment. But the media doesn't seem to cover minorities in pain as much as white people in pain. Just like Natalie Holloway.

In fact, the best way to get this girl treatment would probably to put more pressure on the hospital through the press.

You've inspired me. I'm sending the story to my local news stations and papers. Maybe one of them will pick it up and get some more help for her.

Try it in IE. It wouldn't work for me in FireFox, but did in IE.

Hey, plastic surgeons have to eat too. They just eat better food than you or me.
