Screen name checks out.

And kudos for apparently going 15 years without starting a thread about nuts. Incredible.

Ok, about peanuts. What you need to do is get to a store that roasts the peanuts right there in front of you. The smell alone is worth the trip.

Columbus' Planters Peanut Shoppe opened in 1936. I remember going there as a kid in the early 70s.

peanuts are meh.

Give me Pistachios, Walnuts, Brazil Nuts, or Hazelnuts and I'm a happy camper. Plan B would be Pecans or Almonds.
Peanuts are down at the bottom of the barrel.

I've spent the last years testing various brands for my own research purposes, and for whatever reason, I can't do Planters anymore. They were all I remember growing up, but I find various supermarket brands are superior.

Recently, these are what I have tested (basically the name of the Supermarket):

Lucky
Trader Joe's
Safeway
Archer Farms (target)
Aldi (forget what these are called)
Giant
Shoppers

I think I am forgetting a few.

By far, Lucky's brand have been my favorite, but the rest of that grocery store is pretty terrible. I would only go there for their dry roasted peanuts or lazy convenience.

Trader's Joes and Archer Farms were the worst that I recall. My new local brands are Giant, Shoppers, and Aldi. I prefer Giant, but Aldi are good enough that their cheapness makes them a great choice.

I've always been disappointed that Costco never seems to have had Kirkland dry roasted peanuts. Very strange.

So, I was googling best dry roasted peanuts to try and find good ones to try besides Planters, and lo-and-behold, I came across my own thread from years ago lol! So, zinfamous, Lucky brand peanuts - I googled them - is that these?

It says sunny select, but that is the ones (besides Planters) I see at Lucky supermarkets.

Discovered any others that you think are better than Planters?

Thanks!!!

I like me some peanuts. The Planters dry roasted are the best. I also like to eat them from the shell, roasted and salted. I just hate the way the red things get all over my teeth.

Try removing them before eating.

Your teeth, that is.

is it cheaper to make your own chunky peanut butter?

buy bulk peeled lightly salted peanuts on sale at costco.
throw peanuts in a pan, add a little oil. roast.
put 1/2 of peanuts in a blender, set to chop. empty into bowl.
put other 1/2 into blender. set to blend.

mix into the bowl w/the other 1/2.

Since you are at Costco, just buy the Kirkland Signature Organic Peanut Butter. List of ingredients on the label, peanuts, salt.

Old Post. But, the real irony for me is that I can now buy marijuana now that I don't want any, but I can't get real dry roasted salted peanuts in a glass jar that is really vacuum sealed. Heath conscience people want unsalted or lightly salted peanuts with light beer. You happy with that, then charge on!
As for me, I want my peanuts dry roasted with a thick layer of crusted salt in a glass jar that goes pop when you open it. Vacuum sealing a plastic jar just sucks the polymers (poison) out of the plastic into the product. Light beer is just soda water with a thimble full of grain alcohol (Oh Boy!). However, If you are under 60 years of age, you ain't never had REAL dry roasted peanuts. Don't know what you've been missing, period.

I've been digging Virginia peanuts lately. Expensive, but worth it on occasion.

how are they different from Planters?
Proper Virginia peanuts are extra large, and have a particular roasting procedure. They have a crisp crunch without anything crusty on the outside, and aren't as oily as cocktail peanuts. These are the ones I get...

I had a good guesstimate of who makes them for Wegmans, but I forgot now. I was hoping to find something cheaper, but they don't get significantly cheaper than Wegmans.

hah! I missed this post I guess. ...but it is too far out--probably even when this was posted--for me to recall what Lucky's brand are called. I seem to recall Sunny Select just being another brand, and not really a store brand? It's a familiar name, but I honestly don't recall. Last Lucky peanuts that I've had would have been, probably, 2015.

I now pick up the Lidl brand, which is passable. Not great.

Shoppers is OK....but even moreso than Lucky overall, it is a vastly shitty grocery store and no one should subject themselves to this place, if they are unfortunate to live near one. Just...don't ever go there.
