Hey yall I have a good question here for you. I'm hoping that I can do this, but I have my doubts. Is there anyway that I can burn a Play Station 2 game on my CD-Burner as a data file and then use that burned CD in a Play Station and play it? Maybe this is completly impossible, but I hope I can do it cause that would ROCK!! Let me know...

This and your subsequent posts lead us to conclude that your topic is not for legitimate purposes.

No, not only is it illegal to do this, but they are originally created on DVD discs.

Well it isn't illegal if you already own the game and are only making a backup copy.

Pirating Software/games is strictly not tolerated here.

as mentioned above, if he owns the game there is nothing wrong with backing it up. but i remember reading somewhere you need a DVD burner for PS2 games since they are on DVD discs.

you aren't allowed to copy any of the contents of the disk for your use without the written concent from SCEA or the game producer. And likely they will say no.

Even so, for legal reasons I don't think such topics should even be discussed on a discussion forum.

I highly doubt this guy wants to legally back up his games. C'mon. He doesn't even know what format PS2 games are made on, which is DVD.

Exactly what the above person said. It's the fact that you're giving this information over this public forum.

I hope you get banned for doing this.

The point is, I GAVE HIM A LINK. Which has a link on THAT to forum. link.
yeah, I really did alot huh?
So, every copy based thread should be deleted.
In fact, maybe we should lock ALL threads related to burners, copying or ripping. Yeah, thats it. Lets lock anything related to burners and burning software.

well, pretty much every thread that relates to pirating directly or infers that pirating will be done gets locked.

techinically YES, you can. But the game console willnot read the disk because of the protection (bad sectors i beleive). The only way around this would be to go buy a mod-chip (www.mod-chip.com), The modchip it self I dont believe is illegal to OWN but keep in mind it's still illegal to copy so I wouldnt do it if your plan on selling them or anything.

Edit: If you want to do this only for backing up game you already own i see no harm, Otherwise JUST BUY THE DAMN GAME.

Listen people, my kids lost a $50 game that fell on the floor. When their friend moved to pick it up his foot accidentally landed on it a slid across the floor putting a large scratch on it. That game was lost forever and my kids really liked the game. Had it been a copy of the original they could have just burned another and continued enjoying the game that was legally purchased. Since then I have made copies of the computer games for them to use when playing the game and I only make copies of the discs they legally own. Now, I don't pretend to know the intentions of the originator of this thread but my point is not everyone wanting make a copy a program intends to pirate software. That being said I will admit that his post leads you to believe his intentions might not be good but since he never posted after the initial post we have now way of knowing one way or another, we just have assumptions.

No harm in copying games for backup purposes. You dont know how much damage your cd's can sustain from just getting banged around in the cd tray..

I'm with you on that one. Haviong 3 kids, 1 6, another 2 and the last just under 1 I see my poor discs being used for all kinds of enjoyment activities not originally designed for. Frisbee, stand on them and slide, chewed on, thrown, greasy fingers, plates. You name it. :disgust:

Thankfully, I have a burner, and have no problems making backups

That maybe true, but last time I checked everyone is innocent until PROVEN guilty. So until someone proves he/she is doing something illegal we need to give them the benefit of the doubt.

That said, we all know this thread should probably be locked for the afore mentioned reasons.

Wow, I didn't think I would get THIS much attention. I wasn't meaning to stir up any bad discussions. Please forgive me everyone. I just wanted to know if it was possible. I don't see how this is any different than people copying CD's of music by downloading songs from WinMX and other programs like this. People burn these CD's all the time and then listen to them. They don't go out and BUY the CD, no they just download the song and burn it and then listen to it. All I wanted to do was to simply copy one of my PS2 games in case it got ruined. Or maybe burn one and give it to a buddy. I still don't see how giving a copy to my buddy is any different than one of you giving your friends a copy of Windows XP Pro SP1 or a copied game, or a copied Music CD. But again, I don't mean to stir up any bad feelings. I'm NOT trying to cause any trouble. Just asking a question. I can't even afford a DVD-Burner right now. But thanks to all who understand.
Oh yeah, and I figured PS2 games were DVDs

u need a mod chip to read the back-up discs though and they require multiple solder points, like 22 i believe to be exact, and no ps2 can read any back up without the mod chip

They do make ones that require no soldering for ps2, they also make boot disks (but dont think they work well).
