yes, i know that, but what decimal number do you have to set it to?

The one that is written on top of all the stuff....

Hrmm...guess I could try to use the Windows calc but it would help to know what switches correspond to the numbers on the calc. :shrug;

Ahh ok...I knew I was missing one little thing. I thought those numbers were indicators to tell you which column you have correct or something.

Haha, you couldn't figure it out. I survived with 2 minutes left....took me a while to see the damn pattern in the second puzzle.

I couldn't figure it out either and I'm not going to put alot of effort into deciphering those binary switches either. :shrug;

Binary is extremely simple. It's all powers of 2. It comes more easily to those in the computer field I guess.

1, 2, 4, 8, 16, 32, 64, 128, 256, 512, 1024, 2048, 4096, 8192, 16384, 32768, 65536, 131072, 262144, 524288, 1048576

These numbers look familiar yes?

So if you need 1111, you can't start with 2048, you obviously have to start with 1024 and then add from there. It's even easier when the puzzle does the addition for you.

So how does that translate to zeroes and ones?

Edit: Figured it out.

So how does that translate to zeroes and ones?

For example, the 8-bit binary number 11110101 would be visualized in this way:

128, 64, 32, 16, 8, 4, 2, 1
yes,yes,yes,yes,no,yes,no,yes

So 128+64+32+16+4+1 = 245

11110101 (bin) converts to 245 (dec)

The next row from right to left indicates the next power.

In the decimal number 482, its 400 + 80 + 2, or (4*10^2)+(8*10^1)+2

EDIT: Sorry, meant to say that's how numbers work. Each column is the next power up of the base. ones, tens, hundreds for decimal (base ten).

For binary it would be ones, twos, fours, eights, etc.

This has nothing to do with "defusing" a real device. In NYC, they all would be dead.

I got it with 6 minutes to spare, pretty entertaining while that UPS slave takes his jolly time with my V635!
