Well, etech won the AOL CD. Let's have a round of applause for etech... YAAAAAY! It was Mazeppa of the Uncanny Film Festival and Camp Meeting on TV in Tulsa in the early 70s. The next is for the character's last name w/o doing a google.

Heh. Well, I could...

But what's Life w/o a little mystery to it?

Mystery is a nasty thing. It always bites me on the ass, which is why I like to know things.

Approximately 10 years ago, the beginning of my computing days, I was looking for a cool AOL alias. (I am 18 now). I went searching through the dictionary and found the word Avarice. For some reason, maybe it was because I was young, I either read it as Arcenite or some how the word Arcenite came to my head. Maybe it was because I glanced at it as I was turning the page. Back in the day, it was cool to have all the Vowels lowercase and the other letters uppercase. Hence, aRCeNiTe was born. I have been using it as my Gaming Name/Login Name/Everything except AOL Instant Messanger Name (even though it was my screen name for a few years) till this day. Ahh, good ol' aRCeNiTe.

Bill

P.S. I pronounce it, (Are-Seh-Night)

I used to love Issac Asimov. I read most of his books about robots/androids. I particularly liked his laws of robotics:

First Law:
A robot may not injure a human being, or, through inaction, allow a human being to come to harm.

Second Law:
A robot must obey orders given it by human beings, except where such orders would conflict with the First Law.

Third Law:
A robot must protect its own existence as long as such protection does not conflict with the First or Second Law.

Cool!

A few years ago (when Unreal came out), i was playing it online, and needed a name to go by. I was talking to a friend about it, and in throwing ideas around, i said "Oh I'm confused", and he said that I should use Confused.

When I first came here, Confused had already been taken, by someone with about 3 posts, so I added BW to the end, to make it ConfusedBW. The BW bit was because I was in the process of starting up a computer hardware site with a couple of friends, and had called it Broken Windows. About a year ago, I PMed the Mods, and asked to have the BW bit dropped, as the original Confused had not visited for over two years.

I now go by Confused everywhere, or ConfusedTA if Confused is taken, the TA for Team Anandtech

Future Crew was the sh|t back in the day. "Final Reality" was incredibly impressive. Did you know that they moved on and formed Mad Onion, the company that created 3dMark?

Yes and no. Future Crew split in three parts in fact. One part became FutureMark (which became MadOnion which became FutureMark), another part formed the core of Remedy Entertainment (of Max Paybe fame) and the third part formed BitBoys (the 3D-accelerator-company). Few members ended up in some other companies, like Hybrid Graphics.

as to my handle: Nemesis is the Greek goddess of retribution. "Nemesis the Warlock" also played a part in me choosing this handle. 77 is the year I was born in.

BitBoys. They were smoking so much crack, it's not even funny. I read all their major announcements and press releases... I might as well make my own videocard and implement everything in software

It was not my intention to turn this in to a BitBoys-thread. But it seems to be your intention. I have followed BitBoys for several years now, along with several others who personally know some of the BitBoys-guys, and I can say with confidence that they were not "smoking crack". they had lots and lots of bad luck. If only you knew everything I know about them, you would think differently.

And you thought that Future Crew was cool? Well, many of the FC-guys went to create BitBoys, so they can't be all bad.

Nemesis77,

Nope, we're not turning it into a BitBoys thread. I know things didn't go very well for them, and I read that they were testing their GPUs in a form of emulator and were close or actually created a working silicone. I just meant that most people did not take them seriously because they had such advanced features on their list but unfortunately failed to meet many deadlines.

I loved FutureCrew and saw almost all of their demos from various Assembly gatherings.

Good luck to all of them, and to us as well

Best regards.

Back when I was in high school and into college, I used to write fantasy/science fiction stories. Nightfall was a character I created and did a couple published short stories on. Been using that Nickname on the internet since I got on it. I even have a nice domain.

Not just emulators, they had working silicon as well. They had Pyramid3D up&running back when Riva128 and Voodoo Graphics were the kings of the hill. It had such features as programmable pixel-shaders. Glaze3D was up&running but it kept overheating. Avalanche3D was up&running when Infineon pulled the plug. The reason why they didn't deliver in the, is Infineon. They were good to go, when Infieon announced that they are killing their eDRAM-business, and killing Avalanche3D in the process.

Yep. I had a little chat with them (Bitboys that is) in last years Assembly .

But, I digress.
