can you guys suggest a shredder

Hello

i wanted to buy a shredder for personal consumption, shredding bank statements and the link. I had bought a cheap one sometime back but the blades just wore out within a year. can you guys siggest one. i have this impression that fellowes is a good brand.

I have an Aurora AS1016CD shredder that's been great. Shreds 10 sheets of paper at once without a problem, and does CD/DVD discs and credit cards too.

I got it as a gift so I don't know where it came from or how much it was.. but I think this is it.

Looks like it came from either Wal-Mart or Target.

thanks for the link, i am in the uk, cant find it on amazon or kelkoo, i was looking at something upto 30 pounds. or at that price do i run the risk of buying something which will break down real fast.

i guess to maintain the blades i should have lubricated the shredding blades, correct?

I've got a heavy duty (24 sheets or so) one from Staples. It's about 2 years old and it still shreds as well as my Stratocaster.

what is the make of the shredder you got from staples, how much did it cost you?

i have come across one from fellowes for about 25 GBP, do you recommend it?

Not even close to true.

I have had 2 shredders, an Ativa and a cheaper Target one, both around $50. Both sucked and had problems after a while. The Ativa's blades bent easily.

I wouldn't spend anything less than $100 on a shredder. There is a Fellowes one that gets good reviews at Staples for about that much.

Check the blades to make sure they aren't just thin metal, such as 1mm thick. They should be thicker than that for long-term use.

They are definitely NOT all the same. My wife burned out a Fellowes from OD, and I won't buy that trash again (overheated and melted the plastic guides).

Now, we have a Royal cross-cut shredder that we found at Sam's Club so it might be at Walmart, too. It's a trooper and shreds with wild abandon. Much better construction than the Fellowes and Staples ones I've seen. It was $40.

This is a great shredder. I bought one a few weeks ago. It's much heavier duty than larger and more expensive shredders and it eats up CDs and DVDs. Also you can submit the rebate online (no UPC required).
