Of course, I'm 38 and my ears have been trashed by countless rock concerts, nights in bars, military training, and girlfriends/wives.
and don't forget the buzzing of your sex toys. that kills off hearing too. :Q

this was pointed out to me also. i'm going with my speakers suck until i can try it on another pair.

They have a piezo electric speaker which can usually produce frequencies higher than this. Whether or not the cell phone DAC can handle it is another issue.

i did search btw

There are other posts about it. I did encounter them too.

But as has been mentioned many times, the Search function here wouldn't even be able to find a Walmart in Arkansas.

16.5KHz. Assuming your speakers can even produce that frequency at all.
Produced courtesy of Goldwave's function evaluator.
They've got a fully functional demo version. Try it out yourself and make your own high frequency whines and other fun noises.

i can hear that too

I just listened to it 3 or 4 times, each time louder, on my headphones. Never heard a thing.

When I took my headphones off, the guy in the cube next to me was looking at me like he intended to shoot me... I guess he hears it

loud and clear. i can also hear the transformers on the low voltage undercabinet lighting in our house. i can hear the ultrasonic bird repeller that our neighbor has on his dock. i can hear my LCD's when you turn them on cold. i know it's a good thing to have deent hearing, but this is overkill.

Is it odd to hear those things? I can hear that kind of thing as well, I thought it was normal I've gotten used to constantly hearing electrical things humming like that.

I don't know, but i kinda wish I couldn't. My father didn't believe me, until I went into the next room and closed my eyes and told him when the low voltage lights were on or off. What really gets me about these high-pitched noises is that I can hear them over background noise... there is nothing I can do to mask it.

Let's not fall victim to the misconception that your hearing is fine because you can hear a high pitched tone. The majority of non-presbycusis hearing loss will cause loss of sensitivity in the midrange (4kHz), which is far more disasterous than the inability to hear a lamp.

It's also not uncommon for hearing loss to increase your sensitivity to very high pitched sounds, and in fact it will be relatively far more audible. So consider that if you're in your 30's and can hear 18,000Hz, your hearing may not be as pristine as you'd like to think.

so therefore repost bandits have no case. if you can't search and find a thread and you don't read every single thread here then reposts are excuseable.

Woah...that was wierd. I cranked up my speakers and didn't hear anything despite playing it about 5 times. But a few minutes later, my ears were hurting and I had a ringing in them. I only get ringing like that when I've been to a loud concert or listened to my car stereo at a high volume.

Hmm...didn't hear it but it apparently had an affect on my ears.

it's the sound your tv makes when it's on mute.

Exactly what I thought.
