Since I couldn't find a solid explanation of how it worked by googling, I decided to give it a try on my own to see what changed.
The first thing I noticed is that HWiNFO showed two new power limits: in addition to the static ones that appear by default, there are now two dynamic limits, a PL1 of 85W and a PL2 of 148W.
After a few tests with Cinebench R23 and OCCT I have observed that it is as if there were now two types of turbo boost. On one hand, a very short one, which more or less corresponds to the factory Tau of 28 seconds and that reaches the maximum available wattage. And on the other hand, one of medium duration that varies wildly from run to run (from 64s to 98s in OCCT stress test to 150s to 192s in Cinebench) and adheres the new 85W Dynamic PL1.
Has anyone else tried this setting in the long run? Does it work the same for you? Another question is if this "Dual Tau Boost" power limits are stablished by each motherboard maker without Intel guidelines or are indeed standarised.
