Can you legally purchase syringes?

I have heard a lot about "needle exchange programs" or something like that for drug addicts.

Which makes me wonder -- Can one just go to the store and buy syringes? Or is it a controlled, uh, substance provider or something?

It seems like you must be legal to since there are so many other uses for syringes. Not to mention diabetic people.

the idea behind needle exchange is

1. theyre free so junkies will be more likely not to share needles
2. they return old ones, helping prevent transfer of disease.

of course you could go down to the pharmacy and buy a case of needles for insulin, etc, etc.

But seriously, they're easy to get. You can order them out of medical supply catalogs. I'm sure there's web sites for it.

In Wisconsin (only state I'm sure about) you can buy syringes without a prescription. They are in the pharmacy. You are required to sign a log book and then the pharmacist will ask you some questions about what you are using it for. If you answer "to get my heroine fix" you will not get the syringes

Yes, you can get syringes most anywhere.
I get them for my animals from jeffers.com.
I suppose you can get them off the shelf at the drugstore.
So far as I know they don't require a prescription, if that's what you're asking.

I believe in NY you can buy 10 at a time w/o Rx. Anything over requires an Rx. Even insulin syringes. It varies from state to state though you can leagally purchase from a vendor outside your state such as a place like http://www.getpinz.com. Works out well if you're looking to start selling your own printer refill kits

I'm pretty sure that you can just buy them. Otherwise, how could people with diabetes (like my friend) inject their daily insulin dose? I think he gets them from a drugstore, but I could be wrong.

Sis-in-law and my wife recently split the cost of a case of syringes (Alpacas, llamas, goats)
They're much needed for the animals. Monthly shots for each animal. NOOOOOO way I'm going to pay for a vet to come out and do it for me. That'd be one heck of a bill. On a side-note; another person in our area is considering hiring my wife to do the shots for her animals, since my wife is also a nurse. (not that it actually matters, but it does to that lady.)

At the pharmacy I work at, the patient needs an active prescription, diabetic card, or a vial of insulin (pretty much any kind of proof that he/she is diabetic).
