I have a PC that is always on. Can I disconnect the monitor while the PC is running without doing any harm to either the MB or the monitor ? I know you can do damage if you disconnect a PS2 connected device; but unsure if that applies to the Monitor. The Monitor is LCD type.

I doubt any problems are caused...I've done it before, on accident though.

Anyway..if you want to be safe..just have it auto login or something, and then shutdown, unplug, and boot up.

No problem... no need for monitors. Have servers running with out monitors continually.
They don't mind... unless you gotta troubleshoot it

So far everything looks good. No smoke and the HDD led indicates it is still processing. I did unplug the power to the monitor first.

It's fine if you're using the VGA port, as most people probably are. Don't do this if using the DVI port.

I know you've already done it, but don't worry about it. I ran a FreeBSD system for quite a while like that.

Don't understand the plug pulling. All my monitors have switches and we routinely switch them off when leaving the room and leave the computers going. Saves electricity and reduces heat in the room. No different than turning off a light. Been doing it for over 15 years. No problem.

I ran my desktop for a month withou k, V or M. no probs. Running a 2k3 server without monitor right now, also fine. Will disconnect K and M as soon as finalize location for the server.

Unplugging ps2 mice and keyboards don't do harm. It's if you try and plug them back in while the system is on that's the hazard.

Absolutely no problem. I know someone thats too poor to have a 2nd monitor/KVM, so they VNC into their other computer in order to use it...

Aren't both DVI and VGA plug 'n play or hotswappable or whatever you'd say. I've seen plenty of people unplug either one and never have a problem. Same goes with the PS/2.

I believe DVI isn't, someone here mentioned frying their video card's DVI port trying. VGA is fine with it.

u can actually boot without K, V, or M. however, u must allow keyboard error bypass in the bios and allow automatic login for xp. use either windows remote desktop or vnc for remote control.

I have a PII machine that I only VNC to. It has no keyboard, monitor, or mouse hooked to it. Works like a charm.

PS/2 isnt hot swappable. thats the main advantage of a USB mouse/keyboard.
