My friend accidentally allowed their Dell Win7 to update to Win10.
Now the wifi doesn’t work.

Simplest way to roll it back?
Win restore point?
Can I make a Win7 restore disk on a USB ?

It is probably nothing more than needing to reconfigure the WiFi Adapter settings.
Be sure it is looking at the correct SSID (network) and the encryption type is correct
for your WiFi connection. Also you may need to reenter the network WiFi Password

Or get a new driver. It's a piece of kit that very likely does work with Windows 10.

But to answer the actual question, yes, within 30 days of the Windows 10 upgrade. In the settings app, under the recovery options, I think. It's been awhile.

Settings > Updates and Security > Recovery

There is an option there to go back to Windows 7.

I'd personally just fix the wifi issue (likely a driver or something simple).

Not all laptop components are compatible with Windows 10. Some manufacturers will publish which models aren't compatible. However, that won't stop Microsoft from pressuring you into updating to the new OS. Do you update and have your laptop not work or wait for a driver to be made by Microsoft or Dell? The answer is obvious.

The answer is I update and fix the driver. Like I did for my wife's trackpad.

Guess what, ASUS wanted to say there was no official driver, but that doesn't mean Synaptics or whoever doesn't have one.

And it's very likely that if it was already running Windows 7, it would work with Windows 10. With a chance greater than 0.50, I'd even say.

The answer is obvious, you try to fix the single problem before you revert the entire OS.

But hey, at least now he does have Windows 10 reserved and ready for that computer if he decided in the future to switch to it again.

Not if you don't ever plan on upgrading, ever.
Win8 was a pile of garbage with those idiotic tablet tiles.
I'm still pissed about losing all my keyboard shortcuts in MS-Office Ribbon

No thanks. Win reached the end of its evolution by Win7.
Zero need to upgrade if you're just doing basic stuff.

Poor logic is poor.

Lack of security support and/or proper hardware support will always necessitate appropriate software upgrades. Security being especially important for those not in the know.

If your friend was 'savvy' enough to accidentally upgrade to 10, there's nothing about Win 10 they wouldn't get used to after a week. All it would have taken is some Googling to get an updated driver.

But apparently in this situation, going nearly scorched earth on the problem was good enough, and not complete overkill.

I used to swear by 7 but wouldn't go back now. 10 plus classic shell is just fine for me.

Wait, what? I haven't heard this one before - although truthfully I haven't really been paying attention.

I have 3 desktop machines running Win 7. I have already converted my laptops over to Win 10 (both started with win 8).

On 2 of the desktops (my kids computers) Win 10 mysteriously got installed. I reverted back to Win 7 on both machines and installed Never10 from GRC since neither machine would let me run Win 7 updates anymore.

So, I have Win 10 reserved on those 2 machines? If I want to upgrade past Microsoft's July deadline it's no cost? Does that also mean the Win 7 license on those 2 computers is kaput? Guess I got some studying up to do...

TIA,
