Can you use 2 receivers with one directv dish?

Would it be ok to just split and amplify the signal? Or do I need to get something to add to my dish to be able to use 2 receivers?

Yes, you need what is called a multi-switch, they sell them pretty much everywhere that sells Dtv dishes and receivers.
But, you must pay Dtv 5 bucks a months to use the extra receiver.

No no, if you have only two, you just need a dual output LNB. That is, unless one of the receivers is a DVR (requires two feeds).

Ok, with DTV you need a "home run" from the dish to each receiver, it can't be split, that being said.

If you have a single LNB dish, you will need to pull off the "LNB" and see if it has 2 outputs (2 Coax connectors) if it does then run a line from the second output to your receiver and you will be set. If it only has one output you will need to buy one with two (LMK if you need one and I'll see what I can get pricewise).

If you have a 2 LNB dish you should have a multi-switch somewhere with 4 outputs on it, again, run a line from one of the other outputs to your receiver.

If you have a 3 LNB dish (seperate LNBs), again, there will be a multi-swith.

If you have a 3 LNB dish (PhaseIII, the 3 are combined), there will be 4 outputs on the LNB itself, again, run a line from one of the other outputs to your receiver.

I have a dual LNB and run 4 independent receivers. Just get a splitter for the sattelite signal, it is a different kind than a regular TV splitter. (and much more expensive) I think I paid 70 bucks for my two to four splitter.

Also if you have the tri LNB dish, it has 4 outputs already. You can further split them with a 5 x 8 multiswitch to achieve 8 feeds.
