I think folks are missing the point. Sure those are things he shouldn't be doing (tardies, etc) but the fact that he's being so strictly monitored over it makes it feel like he's in elementary school or prison.

OP: Personally, if there were absolutely no other jobs available, I'd stay. Otherwise I'd be out of there in a heartbeat. I'm an adult, not a 5 year old child or hardened criminal that needs that level of supervision.

hell no. a good relationship with my colleagues and my boss = very important factors for my work. i work with little to no supervision and i like it that way. i have worked at places where they are anal about knowing when you go take a piss. it sucks. in call centers they like to use the excuse that it's a call center and they have to manage the schedules and on-queue time and blah blah blah, but it is of course complete and utter bullshit as other call centers are run successfully without doing that. if it's NOT a call center and you're NOT on a queue, then it's even more ridiculous to expect to know every time you go to the washroom.

internet access - that's a luxury. if your employer allows it, great. if not, you really have no case to argue against it. at work they don't block internet at all, but it's rare that i would have time to do any browsing anyway so even if they did block it, this would change very little in my life. i'm there to do my job.
