In all fairness, that is a pretty cool kayak.
Agreed but the Canadians are going to need a LOT more than kayaks to fend off Russia's claim to gas/mineral rights to the the arctic.

They aren't going to fend off the Russians. Canadians have no backbone or independent streaks.
Canada: Hey guys . . . guys, that stuff is ours.
Russian: Back off, we got big guns.
Canada: <OK Guy meme>

The NSPS program was charged with selecting two Canadian shipyards to rebuild the fleets of the Royal Canadian Navy and the Canadian Coast Guard through two separate packages of work (the projects), valued at $33 billion.
$25 billion for 23 combatant (warships) vessels to serve in the RCN
8 vessels from the Arctic Patrol Ship Project
15 vessels from the Single Class Surface Combatant Project
$8 billion for 8 non-combatant vessels to serve in the CCG and RCN
3 vessels from the Joint Support Ship Project (for the RCN)
1 vessel from the Polar Class Icebreaker Project (for the CCG)
1 vessel from the Offshore Oceanographic Science Vessel Project (for the CCG)
3 vessels from the Offshore Fisheries Science Vessels Project (for the CCG)
Yeah we just spent a few billion dollars ($33 to be precise) on a new naval procurement program.
In addition to the current fleet we have now obviously.
That's an Iowa-class kayak, can't the Canucks do anything on their own?
seems like an upgrade from the previous generation of canadian naval ships.

You know - the joke would be kind of funny if that wasn't the USCG logo on the dinghy and US Navy written right on the front of the barge.
Aw that's cute! Canada thinks they can play war with the big boys now!
We are the big boys. We don't run with our tail between our legs every time some religious extremist threatens us. Well, the NDP does but not the rest of us. :sneaky:

Uh-huh. And how many supercarriers were in that naval upgrade? We have 11.
The interesting thing about modern naval warfare is it can take only a single frigate to sink an aircraft carrier in the right circumstances. SSMs kind of changed things.
Regardless, we have 12 modern frigates, 3 somewhat outdated destroyers and 4 very outdated subs. A sizable force, not really. For reference the USN has "only" 26 frigates so it's actually quite a large complement of that size ship for friendly navies.
A project to replace the frigates and destroyers with 15 brand new oversized frigates has just begun.
It's one thing to use Apache Helicopters and uavs with Hell fire missiles on people that ride mules, but when Russia walked into Georgia, your ALLIES in the NEW Europe (as Rumsfeld said), not a peep.

That and supercarriers rarely travel alone.
And yeah I'll admit it's a sizable force, and I guess no other navy can really hope to compare against the combined USN (just stating a fact). But still, most of it is going to be a glorified Canadian coast guard. Maybe you'll hunt down some pirates, but the only real action the Canadian Navy is likely to see is eventual confrontation with Russia, and that will likely be defensive in nature.
