Canadians - gas mileage, or gas kilometerage?

I jsut saw someone describe the fuel effeciency of his vehicle in km/liter.

Then he said how bad the "gas mileage" was. I thought "huh, he never mentioned mileage once.... how much is a km/liter anyway?"

Do you say mileage even when all your numbers use the metric system?

I don't know about the rest of us, but I still say gas mileage simply because most cars are american made and run on mileage so I'm just used to it.

well the standard in europe is how many liters per 100km, and im wiling to bet its the same in canadia

Its measured as L per 100km but its referred to as gas mileage.

it's L/100 km. eg. 8.5 L/100km is about 27 mpg.

'Mileage' usually refers to miles, but is often used with other units of measurement. It's easier to say 'mileage' than 'kilometrage'. The US uses miles, England used to, and so 'mileage' is the standard term in the English language. Here in Israel, the Hebricsied version of 'kilometrage' is the norm.

i say mileage, and i use MPG(convert km to miles and L to gallons) until i figure out the equivalent in L/100km. so far i get 13-16mpg.

I've lived in Canada all my life and nobody except the manufacturers use the L/100Km
crap, everybody else either uses MPG or the words great, good, bad and brutal to describe
their vehicle's fuel efficiency.

In the UK they use mpg.
