Not to pry but what is the overall prognosis for your cancer given it's location, stage, and other features (differentiation, grading, et al)?

5+ years out, greater than 90% chance of survival because of the type it was. The pet scan showed it had started to infiltrate my lymph nodes on my neck so they irradiated them as well. Any time its in the lymph nodes, they upgrade it to a stage 4 diagnosis, however, they were barely showing any signs of cancer and we caught it early.

Still feeling well. Hovering around 180 lbs, down from 260+. Thinking my thyroid might be a bit out of whack as I'm always cold, not eating like I used to, and not gaining weight and still feel tired sometimes, but all temporary things. I'm not in any pain, not taking any meds, and am able to do family stuff again like football games, festivals, etc. Thank you all for the prayers and words of wisdom. It really helped me get through a lot of the unknown.

Had my 10 week out pet scan yesterday and it came back with no sign of the lump!! My lymph nodes showed a tiny bit of pink, but the doctor said that was normal to have sugar activity there still and it did not mean it was cancerous. I will get cat and mri scans every 3 months or so for the first year and then every 6 months for a year or two after that and then just yearly scans if everything works out, but as for now, I'm cancer free! Through this ordeal I lost 90 lbs and I've started within the past couple weeks to eat normally through my mouth. I still have dry mouth and need to follow every bite of food with water, but I can live with that as it will slow down my eating and cause me to not eat so much, so quickly. Thanks for all the support and I'll post back if anything changes or to answer questions.

Hell... freaking . . . yeah!

So happy to hear the good news! And enjoy being thinner! You look pretty darn good considering what you went through.

Keep following through with the Doctors on your thyroid, I have to keep nagging mine to monitor mine It sounds like you are doing really well though and that warms my heart!

Way to go Slag! Now what kinds of things can you do to prevent it from coming back?

Who knows..Pretty much any and everything causes cancer. I'm cutting back on my soda intake by like.. a ton! I still love red meat and the like, but you know, there are tons of carcinogens present in smoked meat.

To me, this is kind of like terrorism though. I mean, should I let this scare control my life? Sure, there are some changes I can make that will be healthy for me anyway, but I still plan on boating, spending all day in the sun, drinking beer, smoking meat from time to time, ENJOYING life, etc. If I make so many life changes that may or may not really have any effect, then have I let cancer and the fear of it recurring run my life?

There are lots of things I've thought about during and after this cancer scare and what I've gotten out of it is, enjoy the things that are there. Spend time with your family, and just try to be a better person in general. Life's too short.

Wow. You must be a BIG dude if you actually want to weigh more than 180!

As a thyroid cancer survivor, I can attest that improper thyroid hormone levels will cause all those things. Might want to make sure you are getting enough iodine too. If so, then you may need supplemental thyroid hormone, although I would bet that what you have been through can cause those same things too, just by depleting your body's reserves, so hopefully the effects are transient. Anyway, congrats again on beating Stage 4 cancer and best of luck adapting to your new body.
