Wow, I hope everything goes well for you.
I just got done watching a PBS special on cancer and it is scaring the hell out of me.

Good luck.

I feel there is something essentially wrong with medical care in this country. There is n single case manager. That is what you needed. Is it not the role of a gp to kind of manage this as you go through various specialists? But they don't seem to do that. Maybe more of us need to have our cases treated by a board of specialists. Not sure. Anyway, I hope this sorts itself out quickly.

can't have burgers, chicken, anything rough that might be difficult to swallow
Consider blending some cooked turkey or chicken franks with cans of diced tomatoes, cut green beans, and a multi-vitamin into a slurry which can be consumed through a drinking straw. Not the most visually appetizing . . but one strategy for protein and fiber consumption.

Might also research a variable-speed Vitamix.

It's really sad no one listened to you. You complained and they all 'knew better' than you. If you had diagnosed this back in February would surgery have been an easier option? (ie. keep most tongue function) It seems to me these days, in my personal and recent experience, that doctors do not listen to their patients.

I'm truly sorry you are going through this. I'm sure those words sound hollow when faced with the constant discomfort you endure. Hopefully it is the easiest to treat and diminish so you and your family can once again be as close to normal as it once was.

Ah man, I feel for you. Like half my family has cancer, it's rough. Fortunately the technology has progressed & it's not quite as bad as it was before, so hopefully they can give you some relief in pretty short order. Make sure you get a second and even a third opinion before signing up to do anything surgically...remember how long it took them to diagnose it, so it's good to have a second set of eyes on the problem to make sure they're in agreement. Wish you the best bro!

Soylent might be a good option too, meal shake in powder form.

I'm very sorry to hear of your situation, slag. I wish you all the best on your road to recovery. May it be quick and complete.

I hope it helps a little that they now know what the issue is and can start getting it taken care of.

Wow man I would be pissed too. Keep your head up, looks like you caught it early and that is good.

So the doctor that put the scope down your throat and took a biopsy, is this the same area in your mouth?!

Pretty close. What he saw was an outward bulge/swelling before. It very well could have been the tumor below pressing the flesh up..

I would like to know the answer to this question as well.

So...ingrown hair?

Best wishes for a speedy recovery. HOPEFULLY, the worst case scenario is just that...a scenario, not the actual case.

Sucks that it took them that long to really investigate, sounds like it could have been caught sooner had they been really looking.

Good luck man, keep us updated.

Is your ENT fellowship trained in Head and Neck surgery or just some general ENT in the community? I'm really surprised it wasn't caught after the first surgery. I'd consider getting a second opinion at a large academic center on whether you should have surgery, radiation, or surgery+radiation. There are pro's and con's to each modality and all have significant side effects.

Your situation is exactly why I generally don't care for doctors. Seems like most doctors treat people like cattle, more interested in how much volume they can do rather than actually listening to their patients.

At least you have, hopefully, been properly diagnosed now. Best wishes to you and have a speedy recovery.

Best of luck to you and stay positive. Show your family you're strong and they will do the same for you.

And thank you for sharing your story so that this may help/convince someone else in the future.
