lol, you guys crack me up and I appreciate all the replies. 120 minutes of cisplatin down. I'm so glad I got this laptop, otherwise, i'd be bored to tears. Not feeling anything odd yet, but its early. I'm just super duper tired right now, but don't want to sleep in this chair.

well, all the chemo fluid has gone into me. I'm now being pumped full of saline and it will be done in about 30 minutes. Then I get to go home. Day 1 is about over at the oncology department. I'm really curious as to how I will feel tonight and tomorrow and will update everything here when I see how I'm feeling. I need to go home and drink a few large glasses of water they say but I'm so full of liquid right now it doesn't even sound possible

3rd day after chemo. Yesterday I was nauseous and spent most of the day in bed. I forced down a banana, two pudding snak packs, and some yougurt. I had my steroids and the other stuff I should be taking. My overall pain has lessened already and people say I'm talking better. My voice hasn't changed yet, but I'm more articulate. I'm at work for a few hours today and feel ok. Not having any vision issues or headaches related to staring that the screen. Overall, so far, a good day.

I'm getting a partial colonoscopy (its called something else), on Friday, just to make sure there are no polyps or anything weird going on in there. Sometimes its not caught on all the scans and we just want to make sure. I'll be off work all day and will probably sleep after I get home around 1 or 2.

I'm very fortunate to have friends and family members in the area (3 sisters in KC), parents near Topeka, and lots of friends who will help ferry the kids around on days I don't feel well.

My goal in this was to show what is involved with the cancer diagnosis and what they give you. Its quite eye opening to see all the stuff you have to go through, the tests, the appointments, the drugs, etc. I am very fortunate to have good insurance as well and am able to afford the meds that are more expensive also. I don't know if Off Topic is the best place for this. Wonder if I should get it moved to another area?

dude thanks for sharing. i've been researching cancer for the past 3 years or so. i don't have it but for some reason i've been obsessed with figuring it out (aunt died from lung cancer and i still think about it to this day). you're a rock and if you ever need anything please let me and the AT community know.

Sigmoidoscopy?

Cisplatin is really really crappy for nausea, it's one of the worst. They should be able to give you stuff to make it better though.

So I'm done with the partial sigmoidoscopy. No butt cancer, I have a clean bill of health down in my nether region.

Thank you Linux23 for the post. Cancer sucks. Early treatment and identification is key. See a doctor if you have a persistent pain or something just doesn't feel right. It could save your life.

Be sure to stay hydrated, plain water gets boring, try some of the sports drinks. Yogurt smoothies are good too. Don't forget to stay on top of all your meds including any stool softener they prescribed!

Funny you mention that. After my partial sigmoidscopy thingy yesterday, ive been feeling puny and dried out. Just not hungry or thirsty. I'm forcing myself to drink some coffee to get something in my stomach and chasing it with water and some pudding, just to get the taste of food in me again this morning. Every small procedure you get done, they want you to not eat or drink for 12 hours, but then they think its so easy to just pick it up again, even when you don't feel like eating or drinking.

At my weigh in yesterday, I was 241.5 lbs. I've normally been at 262 lately, so down 21 lbs. I'm worried about being too dehydrated so I've got to stay on top of it today and get back into the rhythm of eating and drinking.

The fluid intake is important. I can understand how easy it is to not think about it when you're not actually thirsty.

Keep it up slag, hope you kick cancer's ass!

Even if you're not into the idea of weed/MMJ, you might try give a high CBD strain a shot if you can find it. It'll help in numerous ways for your current side effects, as CBD is terrific at managing pain, nausea, and anxiety. It'll help you get food down so that your body is stronger, and help you along the way.
And as long as there is at least a bit of THC in the strain (I don't think a THC-free natural plant exists, but you can get CBD-only tinctures and whatnot), THC has a magnificent anti-tumor property that may very well help you maintain the upper hand during this fight!

Seconded. I've never smoked it (thyroid cancer requires no chemo unless it's metastasized) but friends who have gone through chemo swear by it, makes all the difference in the world.

Note that flexi-siggy doesn't clear the entire colon, it only clears the rectum and about the last third of the colon.

Just remember to watch the coffee! It doesn't count as a drink and can irritate your GI tract. The Platin drugs can be rough on your system, you need to drink and then drink some more to flush it out of you. I had Carboplatin and had a bottle with water near me at all times. I kept a sports drink near my bed at night.

Also, you mentioned going to work...be careful as people go to work sick. Their little cough and slight fever can spell big trouble for you if your counts are low. I wore a mask, carried hand sanitizer and washed my hands a lot.

It's not bad, and it will supply you with most of your fruit/vegetable intake for the day. I've been drinking it the first thing in the morning. It's also cheap enough. This bottle will last you 60 days if you decide to do just one drink a day. Plus, it has good amounts of fiber.

Went to the ER yesterday morning. Hadn't eaten or drank anything since Thursday night and my throat was so sore it was a 9/10 on the pain scale just to swallow. They put me on 2 bags of IV fluids and liquid dilaudid, 1mg I think. It did the trick and the pain went away, whereas the fentanyl patch and hydrocodone 10/325 and 5/325 were not doing the trick. So, I'm fentanyl patching (2 of them), 2 mg of pill dilaudid (sometimes I pop 2), and my pain level is at at 4-5. But, I can swallow and eat and drink and am getting fluid back in me. I felt like I was going to faint prior to going to the hospital.

Weighed myself today. @237.5. I like the fact I'm losing weight, but I need to taper it off or I'm going to raise some eyebrows at oncology.. I have a lot of energy today which is nice.

Can you provide me a link to where you get it? "Not bad" I've found is extremely subjective
