What is find funny is that the guy that he threw a net on was so damn pissed after the guys laying on the ground, likely with some semi-serious injuries from his head hitting the ground so hard.

No you wouldn't have. No way you could pull out a canister and deploy it effectively in such a short time. Perhaps tackling the guy would be a happy medium.
