Google - Are canker sores contagious?

Oh geeze...even the Mayo clinic is saying they're not contagious and he's still believing they are.

They're most likely septic infections from small wounds in the mouth. Believe whatever you want though.

http://www.mayoclinic.com/health/canker-sore/DS00354

forget about him, he won't believe its not contagious until its proven.
although he's right, as in the definitive cause of canker sores are still unknown,
there isn't proof that shows that it is or is not contagious (even though every single site out there agrees that its not contagious)

Mix 1/2 peroxide and 1/2 water, swish for 30-60 seconds (longer the better). It's going to foam up and taste like ass, but keep it in there.

Next, use Listerine (no substitutions- real Listerine) for at least 30 seconds.

Brush your teeth at least three times a day.

Do the risining three times a day.

It'll be gone in no time They get worse the more bacteria grows on it, so the plan here is to keep it as clean as possible.

QFT - the homemade peroxide/water mouthwash works very well, and is very cheap to make, too!

Thanks for the help.
For some reason, what my mother does is she takes Vitamin E (opens up a capsule), places some on a Q-tip, and it's gone the next day. Wish that worked for me.

Anyway, already started using the peroxide/water thing, and I'm using mouthwash more often.

Rub regular table salt in the sore. It will burn for about a minute, then bleed a little, but the pain and the sore will go away very quickly after.

Thank you for that admission, it is appreciated.

The proof that convinced me canker sores and cold sores are contagious was when my wife and her mother developed them after a few years of marriage. I have had canker sores and cold sores all my life and knew nothing of them except that they hurt. My wife and her family had never had them before. My wife developed them for the first time a few years after I started living with her and her family. Her mom developed them shortly after my wife did.

From this probable transmission I felt guilty and conducted research on the topic. This was before the internet had developed as it currently is with the myriad of sites with similar cookie-cutter information. This research formed my current beliefs as stated above, that canker sores are indeed contagious and caused by a virus that is sometimes deadly due to its attachment to the nerves within the spinal column directly behind the throat. It is not passed by birth but is believed to be transmitted to newborns through kisses from the mother.

An important lesson to learn in life is how to think for yourself and not blindly believe that which you are told. Provide independent consideration to the various aspects of life and make your own observations, realizations, deductions, and conclusions.

Many contemporary mysteries are understood enough to live with after obtaining proficiency with independent thought.

Be careful with hydrogen peroxide. It is possible that repeated contact with H2O2 is bad for the teeth and gums. By "repeated contact" I mean the development of a habit that provides repeated exposure over several years.

Domestic Uses
It is commonly used (in very low concentrations, typically around 5%) to bleach human [tissue] hair, hence the phrases peroxide blonde and bottle blonde. It burns the skin upon contact in sufficient concentration. In lower concentrations (3%), it is used medically for cleaning wounds and removing dead tissue. The Food and Drug Administration has approved 3% hydrogen peroxide ("Food-Grade," or without added chemical stabilisers) for use as a mouthwash. Commercial peroxide solutions (most H2O2 bought over the counter from pharmacies) are not suitable for ingestion as they contain additional harmful chemicals.

The FDA, other governmental organizations, and even dentists in this example, do not have your personal health as their top priority. The USA is a capitalistic society with rules developed to further the exchange of money. For example, brushing teeth three times a day provides more wear and tear on the tooth enamel than brushing once or twice a day. The increased wear and tear on the tooth enamel requires more need for tooth repair. Thereby providing more income to the dentists.

Developing the habit of regular hydrogen peroxide mouthwashes will increase the damage occurring to the tooth enamel and gums. Thereby providing more need to visit the dentist.

EDIT: Forgot this. My preference for vodka over hydrogen peroxide is that vodka is naturally "Food-Grade" without the need for an administration to declare it so. Additionally, I have found vodka to work better than hydrogen peroxide.

Furthermore, I like the advice for vitamin E and salt.

The problem is canker sores, and cold sores are completely different. You gave you wife oral herpes. I usually get canker sores when I cut my mouth. Though I did have a problem when I switched toothpaste. I cannot remember the brand, but I switch back to my typically dull paste and all was right with the world again.

Now I suppose through your wife, you also gave your mother in law oral herpes. I've been married for almost seven years, and throughout all my symptoms she has never shown any signs of canker sores. Like I said, the only time I would ever get canker sores was when I bite the inside of my mouth. The only time afterwards was during my toothpaste transition. I became concerned about it being oral herpes. From all the medical opinions out there is no relation to canker sores(ulcers/open sores) and cold cores(aka oral herpes).

The main idea is to keep the mouth clean, clean the sore, and dry out the sore to stop it from hurting.

The best thing I have found is a Q-tip dipped in Vodka and then directly applied to the sore. The alcohol cleans the sore, kills the bacteria, and dries the tissue to stop the pain.

Hydrogen Peroxide will also work, just not as well as vodka. Medication is not necessary since vodka is the best medicine.

Mouthwashes work but a Q-tip pressed directly on the sore is the best treatment.

Be very careful that you do not pass this on to someone else since it is very contagious. Take care not to exchange your mouth saliva with anyone. This can happen from spittle when you talk, kissing someone, sharing your eating utensils or glass, or other means.

I don't know where you got this info, but it is nearly all wrong.

All you're doing with Vodka is irritating the area. You'd have to hold it on the sore for quite a while for it to kill anything, and by that time saliva will have washed away most of the alcohol content.

Also, CANCER SORES ARE NOT contagious.

None of the information I provided is incorrect.
This is what I have found to work the best.
You are free not to use it if you so wish.
Canker sores are most definitely contagious and very easily transferred.

yu don't have canker sores.....YOU HAVE HERPES.

Listerine sometimes makes the pain go away for me. It's cause Listerine is so spicy that it neutralizes the pain from the sore, at least that's what I like to think.

Kank-A - I've used this before and it works great. Relieves the pain and causes the sore to go away in a couple of days.

I get these a decent amount. I'm not sure if its a coincidence or not, but I noticed on 3 separate occasions I got one after eating a meal with Feta cheese in it, so I avoid feta cheese now.
I also started getting them a lot after trying out some new flavored colgate toothpaste - some orange creamsicle flavor or something, I can't quite remember now. I got 3 different ones in the span of 2 weeks after I started using it, so I quit.
I actually just had one a couple weeks ago, though I don't really have anything to blame that one on.

I usually get them, when I am very tired.

Usually a good sleep will stop from spreading. It hurts when it's healing. make sure to keep it moisture.

i assume you mean one of those in-mouth sores. if that's the case, i'd just swish with listerine, which will both help keep it clean and numb your mouth for a bit. if you mean a sore that's on the outside of your mouth, you've got teh herp and should see a doctor.
