Game breaking problems seem to be getting more and more common these days. I guess it's because studio's feel they can just "fix it later." For the most part I refuse to buy games until they are out for a couple of months and the bugs are worked out, but this was one of the few exceptions.

It's even worse with steam.

I bought MW2 a week before release. I tried to install it and play it, but instead of any install prompts, I'm greeted with a "this game is not yet released" warning. Then my account is disabled. I e-mail valve trying to clear up the situation and it took them a week to get back to me. I have nearly 2k worth of games on my steam account. Do you know what it feels like to have no access to your rightful property for a month? Imagine being blocked from entering your house for a month because the cable company suspects you of stealing their cable service.

But still I put up with steam because the competition sucks even more.

sadly with DRM, especially with steam. There is no sense of ownership because it's a "license" agreement. Most of my games are in a physical media so i wouldn't depend on an online service most of the time. It has its own drawbacks, but it got tons of advantages. Then again, the future of gaming will be online activations and distribution

Uhhh why would a physical copy of the game have a date restriction? To prevent people from breaking into the freaking store and stealing it before release date? How is that even an issue worth preventing with this nonsense? And why is it set to the wrong date?

EA is a scurge upon gaming.

Just an FYI, the same thing happened with STEAM and Shogun 2.

I bought the physical copy in a GameStop at midnight on the release day, got it home, and it wouldn't install the game until 9am or so that morning.

Obviously not several days, but annoying nonetheless.

I know how you feel. When I bought CS:S I was pissed off that A. I didn't really own the game. B. I had to download for 6 hours on a 128k at&t line to even play.

I have to admit steam did get better though. Before 2006 mostly valve's crap. After 2006 more variety, more selection, better games.

Market studies have shown that a company gets better approval ratings if they have small problems which they quickly remedy beyond the customer's expectations than if nothing were to ever go wrong in the first place.

That has been actually demonstrated with a proper study then? Makes some intuitive sense, but quite interesting if its been shown to definitely be the case.

I wonder if the same approach works for inter-personal relations? I might give it a try.

This is the reason why I am just feeling that I can not really be bothered anymore with PC games. DRM. I rather play old Amiga games in WinUAE than have to suffer through all the hassle of dealing with the PC games of today...
And for the games I buy, I pick them up on steam on sales. Never even bothers to pay full price for them, and if they have a 3rd party drm, I dont buy them at all. Instead I borrow my brothers console (xbox360/ps3) and go to the local library and borrow a copy there and plays through it.
