Cannot boot into Windows Vista x64 with SP1

1. Overview of the problem
   I get a disk read error when booting from hard drive.
   
   
   
2. Full description of the problem and symptoms
   I installed the trial for Acronis True Image 11, but decided to remove it. I rebooted after the uninstall and was presented with a screen right after the BIOS saying
   
   

   A disk read error occured
   Press Ctrl+Alt+Del to restart

   I can hit Ctrl-Alt-Del but am presented with the same screen again and again.
   
   
   
3. Did it work normally at one time, or has the problem always existed?
   Worked perfectly until I uninstalled Acronis True Image 11 (I was still able to boot normally when it was installed).
   
   
   
4. Is the problem consistent and repeatable, or entirely random, or semi-random?
   Happens every time I try to boot into Windows, cold boot, reboot, etc, etc, etc...
   
   
   
5. I already tried these steps:
   Successfully booted using a Kubuntu (x64) live CD and was able to view the hard drive.
   
   
   
6. My software:
   • Microsoft Windows Vista Ultimate x64 with SP1[/i]
   • Kaspersky Internet Security 2009
   
   
   
7. My hardware
   • Sony Vaio VGN-190JAH

Here's how I fixed this for anyone else that comes by this problem.


I wrote a new boot sector to the partition using the Windows Vista disk. If you don't have the retail or OEM Windows disk, Microsoft offers a free download with the recovery console on it (Google is your friend). In order to do this you'll need to boot to the Recovery Console and go to the Command Prompt under repair. From there you just type "Bootrec /FixBoot" (without the quotes) and reboot once it's done (only a couple seconds). It should now boot right into Windows.
