This has been an issue for a few weeks. During boot up, my network does not connect to the internet, so I cannot log in to windows, (Win 7 checks password against live.com). The only idea I have is bonjour.exe is using the connection during boot-up. Does anybody have any suggestions? I'll try anything besides reformatting from scratch. Thanks!

If you can get into safemode with networking try resetting the IP/TCP stack and/or install Windows Repair.

While you're in there, launch CMD and do a SFC /scannow.

Last resort a system restore point.

Also look in your system error log in the Admin. tools under control panel.
Safe mode also requires me to enter my password. I can not get in.

Make a local account, and not a live account.

I could be wrong, but I think that (in most cases) the MS login password is checked against what's stored locally, and that the network connection wouldn't/shouldn't have any bearing on how the basic operating system login functions. At least, that's how most normal login procedures work. And for it to have previously worked okay, and then suddenly not work, seems kind of fishy.
How is the PC connected to the internet? If it's via ethernet cable, try unplugging the cable.
Example: let's say you have a laptop PC and you're somewhere outdoors hiking in a park somewhere, away from any kind of cell phone signal. You're saying you can't log in to your laptop, because you don't have an internet connection? Doesn't seem very logical.

This PC is supposed to connect to LIVE.COM to verify the password, disconnecting from the internet does not help.

Why on earth did you require an asinine live account to login? Especially needing to have an Internet connection just to turn on your computer?!

You should be able to do a safe mode with command prompt and initiate a sfc /scannow, a winsock repair or even a system restore. Or do a full fledged repair install using your Win 7 disk.

You can try this on Windows 7 --- go into User Account Managment

if you type in .\ before the username, that will instruct it that you are logging onto the local computer. so for your Administrator example, you would put in .\Administrator

Might try booting from a live Linux USB thumb drive and simply delete the bonjour.exe file. Or: a live Windows-to-Go USB thumb drive can be created using the free "Aomei Partition Manager" software + a 32 Gb or larger USB thumb drive.
