Cannot enter BIOS on an Asus P8Z77-v Deluxe MB

Hello,
I am looking for any suggestions or help with my computer build. I have an Asus P8Z77-V Deluxe MB with 16 GB(4 - 4GB Sticks) of GSkill Trident, and an Intel 3770K CPU. I have checked that all component are compatable with the MB. My problem is that I cannot enter the BIOS via the dedicated delete key. I have gone around with Asus and they recommended that I replace the MB which I did. I am still experiencing the same issue. I have called Asus on this and the said that it was very unlikely that two MB's were defective. It was recommended that I remove the memory and try using 1 stick at a time to see if I could get into BIOS. Trying all four sticks, it is very unlikely that all 4 sticks are defective. I have also tried using another keyboard without any sucess. My only option left is to replace the CPU. I have contacted Intel and they said it was very unlikely that their CPU was defective but that they would replace it if I deceded to go down that path. It seems that there is finger pointing at this point. Does anyone have any intelligent thoughts as to what I can do for any further troubleshooting before I send back the CPU? As a side note, when I press the CLR CMOS button on the MB, I am able to get an American Microtrend splash screen that shows what I have connected to the MB and mentions to hit F1 to enter BIOS, but when I press F1 the display goes blank with nothing more happening.

If you're using a USB connected keyboard? Try connecting an old PS2 type. Some boards require you to change a setting in your BIOS to recognize USB connected devices before booting.

Did you use 2 paks of 8GB or 1 pak of 16GB?
What exact GSkill product number is it?
So, you can get into Windows with no prob, just not the bios?
What PSU do you have - a Corsair?
What Heatsink - CM212?
Have you tried rapidly banging on the numeric pad del key during boot?

fwiw one big paragraph is hard to focus on
If your browser wont paragraph on this site use IE8 or 9

I had the same problem with my current build. The board did not reconize the usb keyboard. Also one stick of ram out of the four was not fully seated causing the mem led to flash. After making the proper corrections, the bios screen did come up. Also the P8Z77 board is slow to boot. Not having a pc speaker hooked up did not help the matter trying to figure out if the board was good.

Since that board has no PS2 port, it seems you have already tried everything suggested. If it were me, I'd return it and get a different brand MB. 25% of reviewers on Newegg give it one star, seems to be a very buggy board.

I have never heard of a bad CPU causing this issue, usually it's the keyboard or MB.

Had the same problem. It relates to the Intel USB3 compatibility setting in BIOS, it needs to be set to DISABLED. Otherwise the board will not recognize the keyboard. The only downside to this is that you cannot use USB2 devices in USB3 port in the UEFI... but I can live with that...

To get into the BIOS in this state disconnect ALL USB devices, except the keyboard. Put the keyboard in a USB2 port. Make sure to disconnect the power completely, simply shutting down is not enough. You have to disconnect power physically from the wall outlet. There is a power indicator on the board, make sure it isn't lighted... and it might require a few tries...

If you have questions feel free to post...

P8Z77-V Deluxe, same as OP. With BIOS 1504.

Yea, that one took some figuring out and a -lot- of websurfing over a weekend...:hmm:

The P8Z77-V Deluxe uses hub chips on its USB2 controllers. For some reason they don't get initialised when you start the board with the compatibility setting enabled, thus failing to recognize the keyboard. You then need to power the board down completely, because otherwise the hub chips don't get powercycled. I suspect this is a bug in the UEFI code, and have emailed ASUS with the details. We will see if they can get a fix in place with the next BIOS update. But I would not hold my breath...

Might be a damaged ROM chip you can send to them and theyll send you a new one. Happened to me long long time ago ... its near the battery, the CMOS chip ... but before we say thats bad try everything else. gl
