Cannot figure out why PC keeps turning back on when off

Hey all, I recently built a new PC (see specs in signature) and I have a weird problem. Every time I turn my PC off, it just turns back on a few minutes later. I've looked at every wake on lan setting in my motherboard, checked windows power and even network adapter power managment settings. Everything is disabled. I even checked my ASUS AC68U router settings - everything is set to not turn on. Problems seem to have started around the time I got my router, but I cannot be entirely certain...

Is there something I'm missing? I'm tired of putting my computer to sleep every time. Is there any way someone can force turn on a PC through the network even with all my settings disabled?

I'm lost as to how to fix this. Any suggestions would greatly help me.

Yes, off. It didn't do this when I built it and I've applied several bios updates over the past few months. I'm confused lol.

What happens if you turn the power off at the power supply for a few seconds and then turn it back on. Does it wake from sleep?

Also, what version of Windows?

Wake from sleep or wake from being powered down? I can try that.

I am running Windows 7.

Ok, so it appears that if I shut the PC down, power off the PSU, then power the PSU back on I don't get any random boot-ups. It was off for a couple hours, until I came on now.

Turn computer on, then disconnect the power and reset switch wires from the motherboard. Now do a shut down and see what happens.

Yeah, sorry I meant wake from power down.

Since it seems to work OK if you forcibly power drain power from the computer by turning the PSU switch off, my hunch is that the PC isn't really being powered off, but is instead doing into S3 sleep or hibernate. Then something bumps the mouse or keyboard and it wakes.

Let's say bumping the mouse or the keys don't do anything because the PC is off... Why would it turn on?

Turn computer on, then disconnect the power and reset switch wires from the motherboard. Now do a shut down and see what happens.

I haven't tried the exact option above yet, I did unplug the power/reset block on the motherboard. I will power on now and power off to see if that did anything.

Does the fix above need to be with the PC ON?

Good test, that's probably not it then. Are you using Wifi or wired?

Having it unplugged when the PC is powered is off is the true test.

I have WiFi, the one that came with my board.

Excellent reasoning behind keeping the block unplugged. I will try it.

I unplugged the block that holds all my power sw/reset sw/leds while the PC was on then shut the PC off with the button on the motherboard (left PSU alone). The PC did not turn on at night. Safe to say that block is bad? I plugged in the power/reset/leds directly to the motherboard, now time to see if the block was the issue.

Okay, well all wires plugged directly in the board didn't help. My PC turned on a few minutes after I powered it down. So, now time to narrow it down. Unplugged the reset sw only before I left for work.

Open a command prompt with admin rights and type: powercfg -lastwake

Tell us what it says.

Looks like sm625's hunch was right on! Either your power or reset switch must be loose and making momentary contact.

Yes!! Having the reset switch pulled did not make it start while I was gone at work, I put it all back together. I'll report back in the next few days (or hours lol) to see how progress goes.

I appreciate the help you all have given.

Microsoft Windows [Version 6.1.7601]

C:\Windows\system32>powercfg -lastwake
Wake History Count - 0

C:\Windows\system32>

It came on. Probably gotta bend the pins a bit.

Do you have in the BIOS something like "Restore AC after power loss" or something like that Enabled? Try disabling it.

I had similar behavior. It turned-out that having my Android phone plugged-in to my USB hub was the problem.

I too had all the wake-on settings 'off' in BIOS, but either static or power from the phone going back through the USB chain was causing a power-on. I'm still not sure the exact mechanics of the problem. None of my other USB devices cause the problem, so I suspect it was feedback power from the phone.

Update to this problem. I've noticed that when I shut the pc down it will eventually turn back on. When this happens if I just shut it off again, it says off.

Looks like an update to ASUS' WiFi Go seemed to fix my issue. I haven't had the PC turn on for a few days now.
