Cannot get Celeron2 up to 850

I've tried pretty much everything to get it stable at 100x8.5 with no luck. I have an Abit Bx6 1.0, Iwill Sloket2, and a globalwin fdp32 for cooling (with arctic silver thermal paste). My ram is 64megs of CAS2 pc100 and 128megs of cas3 pc133. My os is windows 2000, filesystem ntfs. When I try 8.5x100 at 1.7 volts, it posts but doesn't start the OS. At 1.75-1.9 volts the operating system begins to start and I get a VXD error. Is this a Windows 2000 issue? I am not dual booting with windows98, so I haven't tested it on that Os

Also, you may think that FDP32 fits, but it doesn't fit properly. The FCPGA cpu slug is shorter profile and the heatsink will not fit squarely. That's not the best option for that setup, at least not without modifications.

I modified the FDP32 and the sloket so it would make contact. What I did was file the heatsink down (there was a section of metal preventing contact. And the bar on the sloket that lets you take the chip out was blocking part of the contact, so I cut a section of that off. My chip is a Week 18 SLT46.

Try cas 3 with your ram if you are running cas 2, also might try taking the a module out, if you are running an oddball stick, like a 128 and 64. Voltage up to 1.85. If you dont get there, probably a dud.
I suggest all these for testing purposes to help narrow it down. Also, if you disable the L2 cache for testing, and it will go 850, then you most likely have reached the limit of that cpu or L2 cache.

Thank you for your help, everyone. Compuwiz, I may buy a celeron2 from you after all. I got this one for 95 dollars (106) shipped from accubyte. I asked if they did pretesting over the phone, and they said no, so I thought I might get lucky. I guess you get what you pay for...

One other thing. Make sure you are not running the drivers that come with Liveware 2.0!!! Download the latest Liveware 3.0, or at least the latest drivers.

I am running liveware 2.0 infact, heh. I tried the drivers on the cdrom first and they didn't work, so I deinstalled them and downloaded the liveware 2.0 version off the net. I didn't know the liveware 3.0 was coming out in a few days.

Lasker, my brother-in-law just left Accubyte after working there for a year and a half. They test and play with everything that goes through there. When they get bad chips they have sent them out and give people a hard time about returning them. They used to make people buy a cpu fan or they wouldn't honor any warrantee at all. Did they make you buy the fan? I would not deal with these people in the future for any reason. My brother-in-law would not even buy anyhing from them.

Lasker, get the drivers for Liveware 3.0, or get the whole liveware 3.0
What I was trying to tell you, is there is going to be a conflict with that cpu and those drivers. It could very well make the difference.

Well, my 15 days is up, so it's too late to return it. I was able to get an oem version without a fan. I wish I would have spent an extra 10-30 dollars for a reputable company.
