Cannot get my C2D system to post

The problem: I cannot get a post on screen (LCD monitor using DVI connection). I am using a Gigabyte GA-965P-DS3 motherboard with 2GB of Patriot pc25300 memory, and an Enermax Liberty 500w PSU, along with a eVGA 7900GT. The PC powers up, the fans spin, and I can hear the hard drive (WD 320GB) working and boot up. I tested the PSU on another system, and it works fine. I tried a second video card (ATI x800) and I tested them both in other systems without problems. I tried each memory stick one at a time in different DIMM's.

I can hear everything working, but nothing apprears on screen. What can I do?

Any chance that you left the 4/8-pin power connector unconnected? Any sort of beeps? Did you clear the CMOS using the jumper? Do you have another power supply to try?

Well, i'm not getting any beep codes. The 4-pin connector is definitely in, and I tried a different power supply (the one that I am using on my original PC). I already RMA'd the board once(it wouldnt power up at all, and now it does), just how defective can this be?

The one thing I didnt try is reseting the CMOS, which I will try right now. Is there anything else I can do before I consider RMA'ing it again?

I don't think the Patriot RAM is incompatible - people have had great overclocks with the version I have in combination with the DS3. It could be a BIOS problem, but before I send the board back again, could it possibly be the CPU?

Nah I use the same RAM works fine for me. Did you plug in the external power connector to the video card?

So the memory is most likely not at fault (I tried each module 1 at a time, and no beep codes). The Power supply isn't either since I tried two different PSU's that I took from working systems (430w and 500w). The Video cards are not at fault because I tried 2 different cards from working systems, 1 that requires power direct from the PSU, and 1 that doesnt. The hard drive I used in a working system as a storage drive, so I know that works (Plus I can hear it boot up and start loading). The CPU is seated properly.

So it's down to the Motherboard or CPU being defective (from what I can tell). What should my next step be?

Have you tried the RAM in another system to verify that it?s good? If you haven?t you it could still be the RAM.

try taking the mobo out of the case and put it on a NON conductive surface with just a memory stick and the video card and see if it will fire up. The mobo maybe possibly be grounding out in the case.

Ausm, I like how we both basically have the same PC. Are you happy with it, and have you managed to overclock it at all?

Alright, I reset the CMOS, reseated the CPU several times, and set everything up on a non conductive surface - no luck.

I have board revision 1.0 - does the DS3 have any newer revisions?

Hm, I just built the same system...

Does anything happen when you hit the power button? (power light on, fans spin, etc)? That is the first question.

Ok, you already answered it.

Did you hook up the speaker (since you have no beep codes) ?

I'm not getting any beep codes, but I removed the memory - totally expecting to hear a beep code and I didn't get any beeps.

The monitor i'm using is a VX924...the monitor i'm using shouldnt matter, should it?

The 2025's have problems with semi-dead DVI ports (sort of.) Since everything powers up ok, I'd try the VGA port on the monitor just in case it's monitor wierdness. Doubtful though.

lol i just had this problem with my ds3. It was a pain to fix, I found out that the power connectors to the motherboard were like loose I guess. After 8 hours of working on it, I decided to push the power connector up a little a bit, it restarted and I hope I didn't fry the board but it posted. It wasnt the ram thought but I dont really know what the true problem was. I know it sounded stupid to move the connector when it was on, but after 8 hours of nothing, I might as well risk something before I rma it.
