I'm trying to ping wfbssvc51.icrc.trendmicro.com (it's an FQDN of one of the hosted antivirus components of trend micro that is needed) and the request is timing out. I tried a tracert and the result is seen in the screenshot that is attached. What could possibly be causing this?

I tried pinging the same address from home (same ISP in the office) and it goes through just fine.

Not all nodes have to respond to a 'ping'. Lots of them turn that off when demand is high.

Yup. Heck, I have my router setup to not reply to ICMP.

I can ping google.com easily enough, but MSN.com doesn't respond to pings. Its a traffic and CPU saving measure.

Well, yeah I get that but the thing is that that address is ping'able elsewhere. Heck, he can even ping the same address from his home with the same ISP which probably isn't far away from his office that has the problem.

Oh and btw, this is actually a problem of my friend that's why I'm using "him".

Sure...your "friend" has a problem. We get it ;-D

Could just be the route. I have some URL/IPs that I can ping where I get roughly a 10-20% response rate, but the responses I do get are very long times, like 20-25ms.

Others I can ping from my machine at work, but not my home machine. ICMP is a tricky, tricky beast and there are no retries, its basically UDP light with the added bonus that a lot of people like to discriminate against it across the net. So it could be one of the routers along the path that has ICMP disabled on it.

What do you mean by that first comment?

Yeah. I'll ask him if the tracert from his home have similar hops when does it from the office. I'm guessing it probably has the same path.
