Cannot upload digital pictures

I have tried two digtal cameras (a canon powershot A70 and a canon powershot Pro1), and different flash cards and USB cables and have not been able to upload images to my PC. Therefore I think it is a PC problem. I have a amd 2800+ barton, asus a7n8x deluxe, 512mb of ram, and windows XP Pro.

Basically this is what happens:

I connect either camera to my PC. They both go into upload mode and the computer makes a little beep. Zoombrowser, the uploading software for canon begins to load up but then an error comes up that says "No camera found." If I go to windows explorer the camera is shown as a device. Clicking on it opens it up and you can see the number of pics that are on the camera however there is no thumbnail or picture name.

I was wondering what I should do in order to get windows to fully recognize the cameras and be able to upload the pictures. Is there anything that I should update or reinstall that may help this problem?

Thanks,

Hmmm try uninstalling the Zoombrowser software(in case it`s a software problem) then see if you can download your photos still via Windows Explorer.

Have you tried a USB compact flash card reader?

I guess you can try the Canon WIA Driver for WinXPas well, link.

If you have any problems please download and use the "Canon Camera Twain driver 6.2.3 for Windows XP".

I have a Canon Powershot S50 and I had a similar problem, i.e. I got a "No camera found" message. My problem then was with the USB connection. My antiquated motherboard then did not have a built-in USB connection so I had to get a USB 2.0 PCI Card and installed it. When I connected the camera to the USB port to upload the pictures, that was when I got the error message. Anyway, I replaced the PCI card with a USB 1.1 and it worked.

I have an ASUS P4P800 De Luxe motherboard now with USB 2.0 ports but I don't have a problem uploading the pictures. Have you tried connecting to different USB ports in your board? Some of them might not be functioning properly.

I have an asus a7n8x deluxe motherboard which I dont think is considered antiquated yet. I have tried a number of usb ports (4 in the back, 2 in the front) but I haven't gone through and tried every single one of them ... I may give that a try. And thanks for the help Mem, but I haven't been able to fix it.

For those of those interested, I have found the problem. There seems to be a conflict with the camera and the Lexmark X74-X75 All-In-One Center that runs in my system tray in order to make use of the scanning buttons on my printer/scanner. At this moment, the printer is no connected to the PC but it's program is still in my startup list of programs. However, when the printer was connected, the error didn't occur ever to my recollection. Temporarily disabling the All-In-One Center allowed me to download the pictures. Hopefully this information might be useful for others experiencing a similar problem. Thanks for all the help.
