After a unlucky day looking for a good deal on this. I went to one office max and they only allowed the crappy panosonic one to be sub. I went back to another office max later that day and was hoping they would sell out. At first i thought they still had some and they didn't accept my coupon earlier. But they did sell out and i asked for a sub. They said the panosonic one was the sub and i asked if they could sub the s200. He left and gave no reply, waited 4 minutes and was about to leave when the manager and he went to the backroom to get something, i asked him what are they going to get, and he said the s200 and were allowing the sub! There was also another guy interested in the a40, but sold out too. I think since two of us were there, they allowed the sub. So i got the s200 for $199, at the right place at the right time. EXTREMELY YMMV

I had bought this camera from Walmart about a week ago for $250 and had no problem spending that much on it, it takes AMAZING pictures! Then I see this thread, I go back to Walmart Camera in hand along with the ad in the paper from OM, they adjusted my price no hassles so I got a $50 credit on my card very cool!

As I was standing there a lady next to me said she was looking at this camera (the A40) and I showed her the officemax ad, told her go ask for a pricematch if they have one in stock, I handed her the ad and off she went, as I did my shopping i saw her leave the camera dept with an A40 in hand and a smile on her face

So if you can't find one at OM (since the coupon thing seems to be IFFY anyways) and are willing to pay $199+tax for it, check out your local Walmart, take in the OM ad and get a pricematch.

Now I gotta find a large cheap CF Type 1 card out there, any suggestions? Is there a MAX card size this camera will take (since it has movie mode I figure the bigger the better), lastly does it matter who makes the card? From what I understand there aren't even any moving parts in a CF card, yet prices vary depending on who makes them, will I be ok with going with a no name or should I stick to a certain brand for this Canon A40, would love to get a 256 or higher card.

I got this back in December for $200 and let me tell you, this camera rules. Take No Substitutions!

One thing I've been looking for is a macro lens for it. I've seen a few for sale on Ebay, but I'm not sure what's good and what's crap. Does anyone have any knowledge of the lens or any hot deals?

uwanna, i just called my local OM and the guy said that they were out of A40s, it was a "clearance item", and there is nothing on the substitution list. any suggestions? should i go down there any try some social engineering?

when i called OM the guy said that they didn't have a sub for it. Then I heard in the background a lady saying that they did have a sub. He tells me that the s200 was the sub. I asked him how many did they have in stock. He said two. I told him to hold both of them for me. Called my sister and she wants the cam too LOL. Unfortunately, they wouldn't let me use the staples coupon. I'm gonna go to staples and PM the cam and use the coupon.

This is a gem of deal! I can't believe I walked away with an S200 for $169 + tax. I almost feel guilty like I committed a daylight robbery!

Boy this thing is nice, so small and nice! I was conflicted about wanting the A40 though for its much superior night performance, battery life and a couple of other things, but I think sometimes a smaller but poorer camera is best for getting those shots you otherwise might not get.

Steve's Digicams really good reviews on digicams. Personally, I went with the A40; higher Optical zoom and uses 4 AA batteries = get em anywhere when you need em.
