Canon A40 - $199+tax @OM starting 2/23/03 even less AC

I am so excited abt this news ! I had (just bought c4000 2 weeks ago, and sold a40 off) the A40. And I was soooooo impressed with the siplicity, grace and the quality od A40.

Do you have any more info in A70.

Make sure your OfficeMax has it before you arrive. It might just be a bait 'n hook as far as B&M's go.


I go to my local OM with a print out of the catalog. I asked them if they'd sell it to me today instead of having to wait till tomorrow. The manager says "sure" (good!)

I ask her if they take competitors coupons. she says yes (good!)

then they go to the back AND THEY DON"T HAVE ANY A40's!

They ask if I would like the display model (eehhh....). I ask if they'd lower the price and they say no (bad!).

I decide to take it anyway and return it if I find ANYTHING wrong with it. They get all the materials together and they find out that they lost for the CD for it (bad!).

I ask if they'd lower the price and they say no (wtf?!)..... I was not happy to say the least

Just picked up the PowerShot A40 at the local OfficeMax for $199. It was the only one they had. I asked them if they would honor the $30 Staples coupon I had and they said no problem. Total price for the camera? $169 + tax. Great camera as well.

The only problem with returning a digital camera to Staples is that they can (and will) usually charge a restocking fee. If you can package the camera back up good enough so that it looks like it wasn't opened, then you might be fine when trying to return it. I'm a Canon fan not only because of their use of Compact Flash cards, but because they take very, very good pictures.

No OfficeMax within a decent radius of where I live. I'm liking the Fuji anyway. It will do quite well until I save up enough for something in the 4-5megapixel range.

Believe it or not, but I have a 4 MP Canon G2. It takes wonderful pictures. However, since I'm not printing any prints any larger than 4" x 6", the camera is overkill. It will be a good feature to use when I want to have an 8" x 10" print developed some day. However, for now, most people shoud be fine with the A40 cameras (and Fuji 2 MP) for most of their shots.

Sorry. Yes, this is right the $40 off $200 is expired, but there are plenty of $30 off $150 out there.

The manager would not take my coupon, said it couldn't be used on two offers & a sale constitutes an offer.

Looks like I can get the S200 for $199 + tax. Still a good deal?

Just got back from OM....proud owner of a Canon A40...however, they said over the phone that they'd honor the coupon, and they had one in the back. I got there, and the package was already "inspected" (it was opened). Everything seems to be there, and they wouldn't honor the coupon. It was a coupon on an already existing sale. Final price...199 + tax. I still got it, it looks like a good camera. And I got the manager to notate that he "inspected the box" so if I want to return it, maybe I can get out of a 15% restock fee.

Yay anyway.

I got this camera a few months ago through the OM $200 + 64MB CF. This is a great camera for the money. It takes good sharp & crisp pictures and is easy on the batteries too, rechargable ones at least. One thing I like is the many options available on this camera that others in the same price range don't have. Also don't forget to get canons camera case for this camera. Its good quality & cheap. Prevents dings and scratches.

Just got back from OM with my new A40. They didn't have any out front, but when I asked, they said they had them in the back. At the checkout I asked the cashier if they would honor a Staples coupon and she said no. I asked her to check with the manager and he said YES! Final price $170+tax.

This was at the OM in San Dimas, CA.

I know nothing of digital cameras but I've been following the threads on this camera for months and decided to take the plunge.

Edit: It only comes with an 8MB CF card, so now I have to find a deal on a higher capacity card. What's the maximum for this camera and what is a good compromise?

HappyPuppy - I believe the maximum is 512MB CF but don't quote me on that.

I would buy at least a 128MB, the best size of course is a 256MB CF which you can get for around $50 if you check the Hot Deals forum often.

I picked up an A40 this morning.
I was there early, 2 minutes before the doors opened.
The manager took my 30off150 staples coupon after
a thorough inspection.
So, $170 plus tax isn't bad at all.

Me too. Picked up this morning and had no problem with staples 30 off 150. $170 plus tax is not bad but I'll keep a 30-day eye out.

Just had the worst luck today. Office max in Union CIty had tons, but they wouldn't take my coupon, the person said that i cna't use my officemax.com coupon or my staples coupon because it was a sale item and couldn't be stacked! Then i went to staples, they didn't even have the a40. THen i went to the office max in fremont, which the person said they have two substitutes, the s200 and panosonic crap. I quickly said yes to the s200, but the person rechecked and the substitute was only the panosonic crap. Worst experience. There are more office maxes and staples in my area, but i dunno, my area is stuck with the worst stores.

I went twenty minutes too late for A40. But they said they would sub with Panasonic lc-20 which I didn't care for (although I heard good things about it). The next in line was Canon s200. I spoke with the manager and he was willing to sub the s200 in place of A40. They didn't honor the Staples coupon but I was happy I got the S200 for $199.
