Canon A40 + 64MB CF for $200 AC @ OfficeMax Starting 10/27/02

I'm confused. You can't buy the camera online (Officemax doesn't list it).
$50 off $250 appears to be an offer specifically for first time online purchasers.
So how do you get around that at the B&M?

If you try to buy online, how do you get around that the Canon A40 isn't even listed on the site (let alone with the 64MB in the ad)?

I second this notion. I'd love to get in on it for the price, but the way its described, I don't see it happening without somebody at a B&M screwing up and I'm not really interested if thats what it takes.

Come on guys it's pretty straight forward from this tread and the other a40 OM threads. You can print out the online $50 off $250 page and bring into the store and try and get the manager to accept. YMMV.

Or you can call in and either use that coupon, or staples (50 off 200) coupon (OM accepts competitor's coupons) then opt for in-store pick-up. When you go to pick up the item, show them that the ad and demand the memory card, they should give it to you.

Just hit up my local Office Max and got rejected. Some kid who was working in the camera department gave me some BS line like "This is just for officemax.com to try to get people to buy from the web" after a few seconds of uhhhs. I think he was probably just being lazy because the store was packed.

So is it possible to order this over the phone? In the OM flyer today it has the camera for $249.99 plus the free 64mb memory stick. Could I just call and tell them the code for the $50 off $250 coupon?

Let's be honest. The coupon IS for officemax.com. Read it. Officemax.com. In fact, it's only good for your first time order for Officemax.com.
It's an Officemax.com promotion. That's not to say you can't or shouldn't feel moral outrage. Heck, I printed out the coupon and took it to 7-11 for $50 off $200 of nachos. No go there either. Outrageous.

And imagine those online people not honoring the B&M free memory promotion. Da Noive. I'm outraged.

The Best Deal From a Reputable Vendor: The best I found was Dell. They've got 10% off digital cameras this weekend. There may also be a $10 off $100 stackable floating around (I can't find it but others have mentioned it). Then I think Dell has free ship on >$99.
Even if you only get the 10% off (off the $249.95 reg. price), that ain't bad.

The rest of this thread seems to be hand waving, smoke/mirrors/naked emperors....

(By the way, my net search showed several complaints about executivecamera.com aka $200 A40, so BEFORE YOU POST A VENDOR HOW ABOUT BEING A CUSTOMER AT LEAST ONE TIME - or at least disclaiming that you actually have no knowledge of them. Most of us can do a pricewatch ourselves if we want to be blind shanked.)

I actually found A lot of stores around $200

I bought the A40 from buydig.com and from the the reviews at dealtime.com they look fine. 4 out of 5 stars of 508 reader reviews

Executive Camera got 4 out of 5 stars from 49 reader reviews

Anyway, it was $223 shipped from buydig.com. The 64mb Kingston CF card is $32 at newegg shipped i do think. Same price at OM ( with taxes ) and no hussle

I called in my order last night and everything went fine. Told the CSR I wanted the a40 but it wasn't on the website. Told her the flyer said free 64mb CF. She stuck that on there. Also told her I needed a small item to get over 250 so I could use a coupon. She threw on some paperclips for me, I gave her the coupon code from FW. Final price $200.28 no tax (I live in Oregon ) free shipping. Delivery is scheduled for tomorrow! Call them up and give it a try!!

The flash is useful for distances up to maybe 10 feet. Beyond that, try shooting with the flash off. This has greatly helped some of my pictures.

Beware that just because you got through to a CSR and they put an order in for you doesn't exactly mean that it will be delivered IMO. As an alternative, you might want to use the staples 50 off 200 coupon (get it at techbargains.com hot deals forum), it worked for me.

Thanks for the advice. I took about 50 pics at a Halloween party I had.

People were very impressed with the quality. I then hooked it up to my TV where the pics looked awesome! I could even zoom in and rotate the pics on the TV. I am very happy with the purchase.

Why would there be a problem? So far it's temporary authorized on my credit card account. I actually called back right after i made the order to make sure the CF card would be coming with it, because the original CSR i had sounded sorta ghetto and made me wonder if he knew what was going on. Also, when I placed the order originally, I didn't realize that there was a coupon code at techbargains, and the CSR said I would have to give the delivery man a copy of the coupon. So when I talked to the second CSR, I said "I found the coupon code on my coupon too, because the other guy said I would need to give the driver a copy of it", and she said, "oh, is it 9xxx?" (the one at TB was actually 8xxx), so I was like, "yeah thats it". The first CSR just put a valid 50 off 250 code in for me to begin with, so it didn't matter.

I just ordered one over the phone for $210. The CSR I talked to said it isn't on the web site because they're out of stock. She told me I could get one at a local B&M, but I said I'd rather just order over the phone even if it ends up being backordered. Asked her to add some paperclips so the 50 off 250 would kick in.

BTW, does it take a while for the order numbers to make it into the database? It's been 10 minutes since I ordered and I still can't check the status online.

Omax rep called me this morning to confirm delivery. Somehow he neglected to put my coupon on there, but assured me that it would be fixed "tomorrow".

He said to do it today he would have to "change a bunch of stuff in the computer", and I would have to come down there and give him my drivers liscence number? But if he does it "tomorrow" everything will be ok. If this doofus dosen't give my $50 back I'm gonna go down there and raise a stink!

i just took a staples coupon to the woodbridge, nj OM store (i called around and seems in this area, only woodbridge had the a40's in stock). they let me use the staples coupon, but they said that if i use the coupon, i could not get the free CF. and if i wanted the CF, i could not use the coupon. initially, the guy asked if staples was also offering the free CF. i said i did not know. thus he gave me the choice... coupon or CF. i chose the coupon, but i think i can find a good deal on CF. so... for those NJ ppl around here... i think the woodbridge store might have one or two of these digicams left. and who knows... maybe u will have better luck then me... perhaps a different manager will be on duty and will let both the coupon and CF slide. good luck!

Just got mine, w00t! I called Omax to see what was taking so long, and the CSR said that they left it in my garage yesterday (thanks for the note USPS... :roll. But I've been playing around with it, and it kicks my ass. Great buy.
