After 5 years on this forum, while trying to get some old photos reprinted for my kids, I think I found a pretty hot deal!

Compuplus has the Cannon A510 digital camera for $162.95 Text
or DigitaleTailer had it for $163.00 but it is now $174 Text

Securemart has the Canon IP4000 photo printer for $116.17 (borrowed from another thread). Text

Total is $279.12

Search Ebay for a $30 of $150 coupon, you can also get one after doing a change of address at usps.gov according to a poster in this thread.

Staples total $349.97 - PM ($77.94) - $30 of $150 Coupon - $70MIR = $172.03

Canon Rebate at Staples

If you buy the items seperately, you can use two $30 off $150 coupons making the deal even better at $142.03 total, but you may have to fight Canon's Rebate Center for the $70 MIR, many are being denied just for being on seperate receipts.

It's almost like getting the IP4000 for FREE, and both of these Canon products have excellent reviews, not junk. Others have had problems getting the Canon rebate when the items are on seperate receipts, this should be no problem as they are both from Staples and on the same receipt. YMMV

the price I see on eTronics is $180, which is OK, but not the best.

Now I understand. The idea is to price match both items at Staples and apply a $30 coupon.

How about some links.....

Where is the $70 rebate?

Can you do this deal online, or do you have to go to Staples?

emeraldsky, I swear it was $149.99 this morning, but it isn't now so I have updated the post with another PM and provided links. Thanks

EDIT: oh i just dont like rebates. Research shows some 50+ percent of people dont even turn in their rebates or do it wronge and never get it i believe. That being said, deals with rebates makes you think twice. But the staples deal might be good. But im not sure how much the ink for the printer cost. My dad has one for our A75 and i dont think its cheap either. The kodak machine in the stores might be cheaper? Can anyone confirm this. Im not sure you can save money printing your own photos, otherwise it would be a good deal and fun toy to have.

I didn't know that you can price match with online stores. How do you do that? Just bring a printout of the online price to the Staples BM?

I haven't done price matching so let's see if I understand it.
I go to Staples and buy these 2 items with a $30 coupon - so I save shipping costs.
Then I come home and contact Staples online and tell them that I found these items at a lower price, and they give me credit.
Is that right?

Nope. If you want to PM an online store and use the $30 coupon, you must purchase it through staples.com - not B&M; the coupon isn't even valid instore.

Purchase @ staples.com with $30 coupon. Then PM either by phone or online chat (the chat session seems to yield a higher success rate and is much quicker). Shipping costs will be higher because all PMs require the rep to ship the product via 2-Day express. Send in the Canon MIR - that's all there is to it.

BTW, very nice deal Ultanium.

The PIXMA IP4000 uses 5 ink cartidges iirc, and unlike other printers the ink is only about $10 each. It also uses 2pl technology which reduces ink costs according to Canon. There are some really informative review on it at Steves Digicams. Two reviews I read on the PowerShot A510 digicam are at Steve's and at DP Review. I did the deal early today, and am just waiting until tomorrow to get into the online chat for the PM.

Update: Totally easy to do with the online chat a few minutes ago, my cc was credited $83.19 in about 2 minutes. Still not sure how they came up with this total though, does it include tax?

Worked perfectly emeraldsky! I got into the Staples.com online chat early this morning and the support person asked me where the better prices where and for how much. 2 minutes later, she came back and credited my card for $83.19 and all is good. Now as long as Canon doesn't mess things up, I'll be a happy camper. It seems the biggest issue with Canon on the PIXMA + PowerShot $70 rebate, is that the processing center has no clue what they are doing... They are denying people because of buying the items at two seperate stores, or even separate invoices from the *same* store. Going the way I did it, everything will be on one so there should not be a problem.

I hope others got in on this deal, it only took me 5 years to actually find one myself!

If you buy the printer and digicam seperately, you could use a second $30 off $150 coupon making this deal even better. I am editing the original post to show deatils!

This is a good deal! I have the A75, which is the older model. One less x in the zoom and uses CF cards are the only real differences. Also, the IP4000 is the best of the bunch, compared to the 3000 and 5000. Getting both for under $200 =

Will Staples add shipping costs to the PM sites? For instance, if Staples says "2 Business Days" then they will add the 2nd day shipping cost to the PM. This looks like it would kill the deal.

Can anyone confirm that this worked for them?

Thanks,
-Ice
