I haven't used it in a while, go to print a picture and all the pictures come out with a red-ish hue to it. This happens when I print directly from a camera too, so I don't know if it's a color profile issue. Text on the other hand, prints just fine.

Does it need a new print head? I tried flushing it out with water, letting it dry then putting it back in, but the problem still exists. A new print head is only about $50, but it may not solve the problem....

Any ideas? Google didn't come up with anything. TIA!

How does it look when you do a nozzle print check?...If that prints and looks fine then I would say could be the paper, happened to me awhile back, I was getting a reddish hue on my prints ,I changed the photo paper brand and problem solved.

You tried a new cartridge?..check the cartridges are not empty or dried up.

I'd rather look whether the cyan cartridge is running low or nozzles clogged there. Check the ink levels through the status monitor applet AND by physical inspection, and then run a cleaning cycle and a nozzle test.

If it's all OK, then the printer is too. Someone might have screwed around with your photo printing settings (in the driver or the application).

Nozzle check prints perfectly.

I don't think it's the paper. The reddish hue happens on plain paper as well as photo paper.

It's a new cyan cartridge with plenty of ink so that's not it.

View printer status doesn't work for me for some reason, I think it's Vista. Though I don't think it's a software setting b/c the same hue occurs when I print directly from the camera via pictbridge.

What Vista version 32 bit or 64 bit?

Did you install the Canon i860 Printer Driver v 1.73e Add-on Module for Windows Vista

Description:
This software is a module that expands the functionality of the printer driver for Canon Inkjet printers.
By installing this software, you can use the printer driver to set up compensation and processing functions for image data such as photographs.

System Requirements

Software: Windows Vista/Vista64

How reddish are the prints ,just slight?.. then probably the printer CP colour setting.

In order to isolate the fault, we need to know what the image looks like when displayed as a .jpg file - not printed. If it is in the proper color, then we know the problem is at the print end.

You might want to take your media to Walgreen's or a similar place and print a test pic from your media. A friend's printer will do as well.

OK, so ink is full, and the nozzle test comes out OK.

Now, is it the right ink to begin with? I'm asking because it's quite common a mistake to buy and install a photo color cartridge instead of a 'normal' one. Photo cyan and magenta are much lighter than regular, so in your case my next best bet would be you accidentally bought a BCI-6PC instead of a BCI-6C. This would weaken your blue hues to about half their normal strength.

my iP4300 did the same thing, but the nozzle check prints bad, the light blue swath is almost white... I put a new head in and the second blue swath came back for maybe a couple of on-off cycles, then gone again. All photo prints are heavy to the red, but plain paper in standard quality have good blues and greens. I figure some circuit in the printer went out but I suppose it could be a driver issue but why would the nozzle check print fine for a while and then go bad again?

If you have not print for a longer while is a bad you need to print once a week to keep the printer and ink cartridges in a good condition.

You're a genius. Will pick up a BCI-6C tomorrow.
