Canon Lide 20 scanner CC, B&M, $30.99 clearance

I been shopping for one of these and wanted the LIDE 80 that Newegg has on sale today for $125. The LIDE 20 has the LIDE (of course) and the multiple scan cropping that scans 4 pics into separate files while cropping and straightening. (You need to leave spaces between pics and edges of scanner or it won't work.) Arcsoft Photostudio and Photobase and Omnipage SE included. Does only 600 x 1200 and is usb 1.1. I got one to try out till I can get the LIDE 80. But I like it so much I may not get the 80. The pics are sharp and at 300 dpi the tif files are 6 megs each. It is one cool little scanner for $33.50 out the door.

Would this be worth getting if I want to scan in a bunch of family photos? The wife would be using it on her mac. (OsX)

I have this scanner, picked it up at a fry's 29.99 sale about a year ago, great scanner, well worth the price and super portable, I like how it is powered off the usb and the picture scans are great, I have used it for archiving certain photos and am very happy with the 300 dpi output. I would highly recommend it for this price as it can't be beat.

Think I paid $40 for it a year or so ago. It's a nice little unit, especially b/c of the single USB cable. Disadvantages: perhaps a tad slow with color (tho I have nothing else to compare it to), somewhat noisy, and LED can't focus on anything that's not pressed to the glass (so put 'em on there ). I'm really picking nits here, though. This is a handy unit at a nice price out the door.

The LIDE 30 can often be had for $30 at outpost. See posts here in the recent past. I wish the LIDE 50 would come down.

Canon has pretty good info on their site. Click on Consumer Products, then Scanners, then Product Comparison on the right hand side. When Comparison window opens drag the scanners listed on left side to top to compare. U.S.A. Canon (start here, can't do a direct link)

AFAIK, the main differences are:
LIDE 20 = 600x1200. LIDE30 = 1200x2400. LIDE50 = USB 2.0 'Hi Speed'. LIDE80 = 2400x4800.

Normally I like Canon products, but from my experience they are the hardest of any of the hardware I own for installing drivers. They make it way more complicated than it needs to be.

My current Canon Canoscan D1250U scanner also is giving me headaches. It constantly shuts down and then Windows doesn't recognize it. Then I have to reinstall the drivers all over again.

I was wondering if anyone here has that problem with the scanner mentioned in this thread? Its tempting to buy because I'm ready to throw out this D1250U.

I love my Canon s820 printer though.
