You have to call in (800-staples) and ask for item # 441609.
Mention their promotion $20 off any scanner over $99 cost(code #11014).
Then give CSR coupon #90817 for additional $25 off and end up with paying $54.98 plus tax if applicable (99.98-20-25=54.98).
If CSR refuses to take more than one coupon hang up and call again.

This deal is warm to hot if you ask me. I ordered this over the phone on 1-800-3staple. I actually was ordering online , but the webpage wouldn't take the scanner coupon at all, even by itself. I had to go through 4 CSR's telling me that it was because there were 2 coupons codes, even though it wouldn't even work alone. One nice guy finally agreed to allow me to submit the order with just a 25 off 75 coupon my end. The order went in as 80 or so all inclusive with that. He then entered the coupon code manually on his end (using my order number I got in last sentence) which brought the order down to 60 bucks including tax and free shipping. Bottom line, the 2 coupons should work, the scanner coupon does NOT exclude the 25 off of 75 nor should it as stated on their coupon policy (the scanner coupon is a 'particular item' coupon, not a 'off total' coupon). You need to call in a few times to get an intelligent person on this one.
The scanner by the way received 90% approval on CNET.com with only knock even in their biased review being its supposed flimsiness. The expanding cover can be broken, if you're an absolute clutz. Every HP that the store ordered finished with decent CNET reviews (biased again) but all I think below 60% approval from actual owners. I set it up on my computer and another on my friend's : ten minutes total. It scans very nice and 1200 dpi is overrated unless you do actual image editing. This is a great scanner at a very good price.

urggg. I got this on the website and I cannot combine both coupons...

meanwhile, the 20-bucks-off-scanner-instant-saving expires today, 1/20

and on the scanner... technologically, this 'slim' type uses the CIS mechanism, which is SUPPOSINGLY inferior than the bulkier CCD counterpart.
however, as lzpoof said, the quality difference may be neglicable.

I got this solely because of its portability: so small, so lite, and require only USB cable for POWER. great to copy stuff in library WITHOUT paying .50 cent per Xerox.

The scanner also comes with Omnipage Pro9 ... it's a little old , but it's the full version, while most HPs and Epson's I believe only come with lite versions. I may be wrong on that one, but for licensing freaks, that's nice. Their photosuite is not very nice however and hardly worth anything. The actual scanner software is kinda simplistic but easy to use. As far as optical resolution, consdier this for anyone not storing large image files for all eternity.

A typical computer montior people use is set at about 1024X678 or 1280X1024. A typical photograph could be as large as say 5X3 inches. At 600 DPI, that would mean the scanned image (barring any 'antialiasing' type effects you may add) would be 3000X1800 pixels. That amounts to approximately 4-9 computer monitors required to actually display the entire image. A sheet of paper is 11X8.5. To display it as a page looks portrait, that's 6600 pixels high by 5100 wide, or approximately 45 computer monitors of area. If you either shrink the image or zoom out, you effectively lose the quality you paid $100 extra for (in the case of the Canon 1200 dpi model ), and introduce possibly undesirable interpolations or truncations performed by your image software or video display. And don't even consider shrinking a 6600X5100 image and putting it in a Word document for your next report..... I think 200 dpi scans are enough for most applications. Longwinded, but think about it next time you look at a scanner .....

One last note from the new member:

Those numbers are for 600 dpi; for 1200 dpi multiple the computer monitors by 4!! Since it's twice as wide and twice as high. Even 600 dpi is overkill a lot of the time. Nice to have, but you probably won't use it that much.

Stremples has a new telephone at least Inauguration policies: Every coupon is suspect as deriving from an "internet bulletin board". 2nd call gets the attention of an intercept from a "supervisor" [and, 3rd call as well]. You can hear the clicks on the line.
My CS representative, had the [f-in] nerve to tell me that my account had 7 diff. mail addresses [5, all diff accounts of my family]. The "CS" agent never even apologized.

im sorry to tell you guys... but this scanner is suck.

I had bought it a couple weeks back mainly because i like the size of the sucker. After using it for a while, i noticed that the scans came out pretty crappy, even at high DPI's.

My friend picked up one of the Epson 636Us from compusa and i took a look at his scans, and i was like, "Damn!"

I kinda felt ripped off. So guess what i did. I packed it back up and took it to compusa, and got myself 2 Epson 636Us.
haha

Sorry to tell you bad news, maybe i just didnt know how to use it? who knows?

For those new to scanning, the Canoscan N650 and N656 are pretty good. And if you require that the scanner can be fitted into a briefcase or backpack, their ultrathin size PLUS being powered by USB (no AC adapter) is the cat's meow.

However, old hands at scanning know that CCD scanners have the capability to make INTRINSICALLY better scans. I don't mean just less noise in the scan, but the DYNAMIC RANGE of the colours will be better. As for scanning at 600 DPI instead of 300 DPI, it is better to scan at the higher resolution, then reduce the image in size via any graphics software to fit on a 1024x768. This results in an overall better image. Also, if you use a scanner as a magnifying glass, having 1200 DPI is better than 600 DPI. For example, if you put a postage stamp, hair, leaf, or dandruff from your dog's pubic region onto the glass, the high-resolution scanner will magnify the image for you better if you have 1200 DPI optical rather than 600 DPI optical.

Rather than repeat my post, you can catch the informational URLs in the Canoscan N1220U post.
