I have the a60 and I think the shutter speed is adjustable, and the a60 = a70 - 1megapixel

Just wanted to make you all aware that Amazon has this cam for $280, only $14 more. Not trying to crap on this thread or anything, just saying that if you have an Amazon GC or live somewhere where you can get cheaper shipping via Amazon, you might consider purchasing from them instead.

The A70 also has a greater resolution for taking movies (A70 640x480 vs A60 320x240)

ah...they're just different. Without having the specs in front of me, i'm quite sure that the A70 is going to be better resolution and better in overal quality. However, the s230 is smaller; that's it's selling point -- extreme pocketability. The A70 isn't a monsterous camera, but i wouldn't stick it in my jeans pocket.
The A70 has full manual, shutter priority and aperture priority modes -- the cheapest digital camera to have those options. Very cool for hobbyists playing with photography beyond point-and-shoot. The s230 is...still small.
So, without consulting any specs, if size isn't an issue get an A60 or A70. If you want to travel less conspicuously, i'd say s230. There are myriad reviews for both cameras if you google for them.

If you are in the Bay Area and want this camera go to Chinatown
tons of electronic stores there. Can be had for $250.00- Everyday of the week. $200.00 if you're really into haggling
and buy a few accessories. One Accessory worth looking at is the lens adapter, outer ring screws off A70 add adapter and use any 52mm lens with your digital camera.

this site also has had the A70 in the past for a bit cheaper here
granted it's refurb equipment, but sometimes you can save

I just jumped on this. I was looking for the best deal on this, and with the $50 off at office max, it couldn't be beat. Free shipping too. Just had to pay tax. Came out to be about $270 after tax and free shipping. Thanks for the heads-up on the coupon - I am (was) always leary about those...

$271 is what it comes out to because of a 5.95 handling fee...so its not totally free shipping. Still a hot deal that I jumped on...xmas gift for the gf.

Check the tax for your town. The OM deal might be cheaper than the ecost. I got hit with 8.25% tax.

I don't like A very much, I think buy a S45 from beachcamera.com is better, it's only $342.

I really hope there are going to be some deals on the A70 in the next few weeks. I remember OM ran a sale where you got a 128 MB CF card free. Since $299 is their everyday price, I'm holding out for something good (although with my luck it will never happen)
